An unpopular opinion but I think we should retain Bruce, but let him head up the academy/youth development. He’s got form for bringing along talent through and also has an eye for an emerging player. he’d be a wise old head and would connect with the area immediately.
It's a great shout, I'd be happy with that too. He said this was his last managerial job, I don't see why we couldn't have him in that kind of role. I may be getting soft, but I'd be a bit gutted to see him just chucked out. He'll get at least this season and with the virus situation may even get some/all of next season. Looks like we're going to be comfortably safe and even improve on last season.
I think when he said that he was not planning to be sacked after 1 season. Suspect there will be a few managerial positions available if he does get moved on (e. g. West Ham, Bournemouth).
T Totally agree. He's done a great job with the resources at his disposal, who knows how much of a better job he could do with more funds/better players and a better youth setup with good talent coming through the club. I think if the right offer was pitched to him he'd be up for it. It's his dream job at the minute and when the takeover goes through he has the opportunity to be involved in the club being steered in a completely different and hopefully more successful direction so I'd be more than happy to see him sticking around. I think it would go down well with the players currently here who end up staying as well...I think he is well liked and respected.
He's nearly 60, I don't think he's going to the South Coast. Boro might be a more appropriate job once Woodgate's sacked. Thing is the set up at Man City is ridiculous - they have a bigger coaching team for their reserves than we do for the first team, so it's that kind of depth we'll be looking at.
Someone on here quoted an article which stated that plans for the new NUFC training facility had been costed by the PIF/PCP/Reuben consortium at around £25million. That would be a vast improvement on the paddling pools, dustbins and the like, putting us well above most in the league. Still far behind Man City though, whose training campus cost an estimated £200million.
THis is why I am sick of Football and getting fed up with sports in general . They have not broken any rules , but it is killing the sport , or the grass roots at least .
I agree to a certain extent but it's also creating jobs elsewhere. The company I work for provide IT software to the club so there are other tangible benefits outside of football that sometimes get overlooked.
Fair comment , never even thought about that . I do think though that the money in sport in general , cannot last .
Putting the latest result aside, he's been absolutely gash. We're bottom or near the bottom of every performance chart. If we had played Sheff Utd before the pandemic break, no way in hell would we have won. We see this a lot though, We win one, people cream their pants over Bruce, we then lose 3 and people realise he was actually **** anyway.
Mate, the actual thread is about putting him in charge of the academy. But you have to give credit where it is due; the formation shift, the fitness of the players, the way they took control of the game v Sheff U and put them to the sword should all be commended. Should Bruce oversee a Saudi-funded transformation of this football club?! Of course not.
I agree he should not be the top man or even manager but on youth development he can spot a player alright. He’s also really well respected so he’d be ideal as a front man to go and do a deal with another English club to sign their young talent.
He shouldn't even be in charge of the academy. Haven't we had the most injuries for about 5 years this season. I don't see an eye for talent either. Unless by talent you mean pasties.
