Lewandowski is a lethal finisher and Bayern's entire system is built around him This is also an issue that will hit them in a year or two: when he retires, they either need to drop a like-for-like player in his place and hope that they hit the ground running, or the team's system needs to be rebuilt because it's no use persisting with a system if one of the components isn't compatible with the others - as the Argentina team spent a hell of a long time learning when they kept playing with the system that was perfect for Maradona even though Maradona had retired and they were putting a lot of pressure on the likes of Ortega, Riquelme and Aimar to be Diego II
O We saw several penalty claims yesterday that were a bit more valid than Pogba’s dive totally ignored by refs and VAR, but as far as I recall. none of the players fouled were wearing red
I assume that I'm just not remembering this, but have we ever had a penalty against Man Utd in the Premier League?
I can't recall one but they are only 3 short of the prem record for most awarded in a season , quel surprise
According to this http://www.mehstg.com/manustat.htm we have never scored a penalty against Man United in the PL, the last one was scored by Lineker on new years day 1991. 66 games in total against United since Lineker scored that penalty almost 30 years ago . I have no idea if we have missed one in that time (excluding shootouts). Man United have scored 11 against us since this game in 1991, but not all the United goals are listed on that site, so there could be more. United were being gifted soft penalties way back then and the commentary was just as biased.
I don't think that's true, though it's fairly close. Bayern have a massive, almost unassailable advantage over everyone else, though. They tap up the other clubs' players relentless and have far greater resources than their opponents. Lewandowski is a top, top striker. He's been absolutely unstoppable this season and pretty close throughout his career. 420 goals in 614 club matches and 61 international goals in 112 games while playing for Poland is an amazing record. He's been overshadowed by Messi and Ronaldo or he'd be regarded more highly.
You could but from what I have seen I would disagree - I think that they have one dominant team, 6 excellent teams that qualify for Europe and the rest make up the numbers. I realise that you can say the same for the prem (particularly this season). I think that there are more better quality players at the lower level premier league teams, and in some cases in the championship than there are in the bottom half of the Bundesliga.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_foreign_Premier_League_players#Germany Currently 12. Lewandowski's Polish, though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_foreign_Premier_League_players#Poland Only 2 of them.
So the last time that we got a penalty against Man Utd, they still got one more recently than us in the same game! And on top of that it was an obvious dive. Hughes is getting nowhere near the ball and does a bunch of Neymar rolls to con the ref. Then he sends off Gazza for pointing out his bias when he turns down a far more obvious one on Lineker. Considering that Tony Adams called the official a ****ing cheat when he was mic'ed up and didn't get one, I'd love to know what he said. Shocking commentary and the usual cheating from the Mancs and their pocket refs. 30 years without a ****ing penalty against a team that we play at least twice a season. Unbelievable. Also, judging by that link, the last time that we got one at Old Trafford was in 1955!
Talking about things that happened in the 50s? Oh boy, can't wait for Treble to start frothing at the mouth at that one...
Tottenham drew 1-1 with Manchester United on Friday and Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is in a positive mood in his news conference ahead of tomorrow's London derby against West Ham. "Only good news," says Mourinho. "Lucas [Moura] is back from injury, Dele [Alli] is back from punishment and no injuries against Manchester United. We have two extra players that make our squad really, really good. "For the first time since I arrived, all six attacking players are available for the game. Our attacking options for this match are really good."
