Sad about NCH. It was a great venue for live music. First time I saw AC/DC was there, FTATR tour. There was an oldish couple about three rows behind me. Everyone reckoned it was Brian Johnson’s mam and dad.
Negril is sound Did you stay in a hotel or apartment and did you get out and about to mix with the locals?
Hotel mate. Went to River Dunne falls and nine miles where Bob Marley’s mausoleum is, and took a trip on a bus ran by a Rastafarian to eight bars in Negril. There were a few of us on the bus so it was fine. Other than that, we stayed in the complex. The locals wanted your money one way or another.
Did about 20 rastas try and drag you down the side of the house to buy weed when you got to Bobs resting place I’d recommend the horse riding out there, I never fancied the idea but that was a brilliant experience going through the mountains and in the sea for a swim on them. I stay at Runaway Bay when I go and always venture out, I never feel in danger tbh. I’ve done a beach night time party out there, that was excellent. I think the Dunns River is the only thing I’ve not done out there yet.
Saw Lindisfarne at Newcastle City Hall in an epic Christmas gig at the end of their tour. A great show from an underrated band with some phenomenal songs. Sadly they turned themselves into a novelty act with Fog on the Tyne which has some seriously shyte lyrics. Allowing Gascoigne anywhere near it confirmed it.
It was one of Lemmy's favourite venues. I remember Motorhead played at the 02 academy (i think it was Carling academy at the time) around 2007/8/9. Near the end of the set he said that next year they would be back at the City Hall...which got a big cheer. Was a good gig as well....Saxon were support. Lots of good memories of the City Hall.
Aye, saw them at NCH on their Christmas concert in around 1981. If I’m honest the only song I knew by them was Fog On The Tyne! Still enjoyed it though. But you are absolutely right that allowing Paul Gascoigne to embarrass himself and them with that song is a travesty.
Yeah, 1981 seems about right, we were probably there on the same night ... ... were you wearing a mustard tank top
Don’t think my wardrobe had such a garment in it. Alll I remember was that I was half way back in the stalls and the support was a comedy act.
I'm going to see my first live band since the virus struck this Sunday.. One of my favourite local bands, The Revolutionaires, are playing an open air gig at the Schooner in Gateshead this Sunday.. Really looking forward to it, but also with some trepidation.
I’ve just seen that, outside gig I believe. I’ll get on to Gary, see when they’re over your way next.
Me and the Mrs are going through to the Schooner.. Apparently just a short walk from Gateshead stadium metro..
Looks like the Schooner at Gateshead two weeks running for me as 1977 are playing there a week on Sunday as well.
Growing up I listened to the likes of Patsy Cline and Engelburt Humperdinck with my Nana and Grandad. If my mates aren’t around I’ll still have a cheeky listen to them I’m a big fan of Oasis and Coldplay, now. The best band I’ve seen live were the Killers, they were excellent. Bob Dylan is terrible live.
