Presumably because they couldn't use the club commentator's response without getting the video demonetised...
Just a reminder that Keant has a wife and five children Imagine what their lives must have been like when spending three months locked up with him...
The match reinforced my opinions that Mourinho should go, and that rebuilding should accelerate. I thought bringing Mourinho in to a team that was CL runner up last year was reasonable, given his record of winning trophies. In any case, it didn't pan out, and he is not the way forward now. Spurs are not going to qualify for CL this year. They should be looking to sell or offload veterans to bring in more young players. It pains me greatly to say it, but the number one priority should be selling Kane. Kane was at the center of everything good that happened with Spurs until last year. Since then, he's been at the center of everything bad that's happened to them. He's not an elite level striker anymore, and someone would still pay a lot of money for him. Spurs are mediocre and dull right now, and there's no need to be both. I also thought Bergwijn, Sissoko and Dier were good, and thought Davies did pretty well also. That save by Lloris looked almost miraculous.
I've mentioned it before and I'll mention it again: the theory that Steptonho isn't here to replace Poch, but serve as a bridge between Poch departing and Joao Sacramento being our next manager, is really beginning to look like a possibility The thing is, as I was saying even last September/October when people were demanding Steptonho come in, Steptonho's record is one of a coach who comes in and gets a team who finish second or third across the line, which is exactly what he did at Chelsea, Inter and Los Ladrones - however that means he should've been brought in a couple of years earlier after our back-to-back title challenges fizzled out in the late stages, not when the team was having a bad patch of form short-term and were clearly in need of a rebuild, especially in midfield
Roy Keane blasting De Gea and his center half for the Spurs goal. Wonder what he would have called Dier if HE was in a red shirt giving away a stupid penalty!
Am I right? Was Harry Kane's only shot at goal during the game, his free kick towards the end that hit defenders? Pretty bad!
I was actually pretty happy with our tactics yesterday, what I was mainly disappointed in was Jose’s substitutions and it’s something I heavily criticised Poch for as well. I wasn’t overy chuffed with the selection either but up until about 60 mins we looked pretty comfortable before some of our players began to tire. At that point we should’ve started bringing players on, then more so as the game progressed and it was obvious both Son and Kane (the latter especially) were playing well below par, I don’t see why we didn’t utitlise more subs, whether that be going all out for the lockout by bringing on Jan/ Toby or loading up the midfield with Skipp/ Tanguy and having Sess come on to play out wide. In the first half when we were countering at speed I thought it was great to watch, Bergwijn especially was a real problem for them on the break, almost reminiscent of when we had Lennon & Bale on the flanks, Son also should’ve scored but for a great save by de Gea. And ultimately, but for a mistake by Dier (albeit soft) who otherwise had a great game, we very much could’ve won yesterday. I can see (or think I can see) what Jose is trying to do, turn Spurs into a replica of his Madrid 2012 side which has been labelled as one of, if not the best counter attacking side ever, we obviously don’t have the same quality but it’s not to say we still can’t make it a good side. What’s letting Jose down at the moment is some of his selections and then lack of subs. Hopefully with Gio being fitter, Tanguy getting some game time, Alli returning to form and some additions in the summer, I think we could look a very decent outfit. I’m still very much behind Jose, even if I have been underwhelmed at times. As for selling Kane, can’t agree with that. He was dreadful yesterday but he’s still easily one of the best strikers in Europe and by some distance. We just need to stop running him into the ground every season and it’s why brining in a striker for competition is crucial in the summer.
I hope you're right about Spurs under Mourinho and Kane. What I thought I saw yesterday was a club that needs to cut ties to both a manager and a player who aren't good enough at this point to be calling the tune. Without them, and with everyone healthy, Son, Dele, Moura, Bergwijn, lo Celso and Fernandes would make for a good team that plays good football.
There's a problem with that thinking: who sticks it in the back of the net? It doesn't matter how good your football is if there isn't anyone scoring goals at the end of it, which anyone apart from Arsene Wenger is keenly aware of
You won`t see a team in a red shirt concede a penalty in that fashion, and its highly unlikely you will see Spurs given one in that fashion either, and certainly not against a team that wears a red shirt and is from the North West.
Pass map time please log in to view this image A few things look off about this * Kane playing deeper than Lamela * A lot of sideways passing between Bergwijn and Aurier * Hugo actually managing to play it long and reach the intended target * A clear effort to keep the ball away from the right side of our half, which surely has to be an effort to minimise Aurierisms
If Kane was treated like other players, he would be a big plus even if he's not as he used to be. But last year in the CL, Spurs were much better with Llorente, a player who was not nearly as good at scoring goals, because Llorente put the team first. The problem seems to be that Kane is first priority for the managers, and the team second. So Pochettino ruined Spurs' chances at both the title and the CL by bringing him back too early last year three different times. So Mourinho played Kane for 90 minutes Friday when his fitness level warranted about 10. So Spurs were excellent in the CL last year until Kane played, and won six matches in a row in the PL until Kane played. I think the fact the team doesn't come first has a knock-on negative effect on at least some of the other players as well. One solution would be to restore Kane to the status of the other members of the team. But that doesn't seem likely. Selling him would both solve the problem of his status and do something to rectify the biggest mistake ENIC have made, which is to hold onto people too long. At one point, Spurs could have gotten 150 million or so for Kane, 70 million for DIer and 50 million or so for Pochettino. With the wisdom of hindsight, that's what they should have done.
I notice you didn't answer the question: if Harry Kane wasn't in the team, who would stick the ball in the net? It always amazes me that people have a collective amnesia for the 2008-9 season, where we made over £50m by selling Keane and Berbatov (unwillingly...) and reinvesting that into the team, and that took us so far backwards that Leeds fans were camped out on Old606 gloating about playing us in the Championship the following season, a prediction which failed on two levels since we didn't get relegated from the Premier League and they didn't get promoted from League One And why did we go so far backwards in such a short space of time? Because either nobody answered the question of who would stick the ball in the back of the net, or they did answer by giving the name Barren Dent and somehow not being asked to leave the room until after our 8th Premier League match that season
I think everyone would agree he was definitely rushed back for the CL Final but he done pretty well in the CL in general, five goals and an assist in nine games, two of those goals got us the win against PSV and his assist was for Lucas in the 1-1 draw at Barca, not forgetting his goal away at Dortmund which killed the tie after our initial home win. Kane's status at Spurs is what it is because he's so good. He's a world class player and his scoring stats are bettered by very few players. He's our equivalent to a Ronaldo/ Messi/ Neymar so it's natural for him to be of higher importance and stature. We'd be a lot, lot worse off without Kane. If say we sold him for £150m who would we have got to replace him? We couldn't take Lewandowski from Bayern, we couldn't take Aguero from City, we couldn't take Benzema from Madrid... Selling Kane for any amount likely weakens us as his replacement will almost certainly be inferior. We only have to look at history really, when we sold Berbatov we were weaker, when we sold Modric we were weaker, when we sold Bale we were weaker, when we sold Walker we were weaker (and still are at RB). ... Selling key players should never really be on the agenda of a club unless you're in dire straits financially or the players is acting up and causing issues. For me, the aim should always be to add players to complement your key players, that way it increases the chances of success which then increases the chances of signing more and more quality players.
I see Lewandowski has set a goal scoring record in Germany. Is he that good because he plays for moneybags City, sorry!, Bayern Munich,or has German football become very poor these days?
He pulled our pants down and gave us a good spanking this season in the champions league, does that answer your question
He does play for the best team in a mediocre league, but in my opinion he is very good and would score goals wherever he played.
