Someone mentioned a figure of only 12,000 tonight as well - anyone know what that relates to? Number of skates in a telephone box? Number of skates in a mini? Number of skates in Falling Down Krap? D'oh!
To be honest, I expected a draw but I'd imagine most other Portsmouth fans weren't expecting a win either. Any team that plays badly and gets bad results over a long period of time is going to see a drop in attendances, and we've been playing badly and getting bad results since last season.
We had an attendance of nearly 3 times of yours tonight against Exeter when we were in the bottom half of League One....It's is called supporting your club through thick and thin...lets face it, you won the cup and got to the final in the last 3 years, where are those fans now?
SB3 was at home trying to come up with some witty and unamusing banter to post on our board. I feel he won't for a while...! Happy Days! PS 3-2
There are many reasons why Southampton in the bottom half of league one may have been a better draw than Portsmouth near the bottom of the Championship. For one thing, the much better facilities at St Mary's compared to Fratton Park is definitely going to make a big impact. I dunno when this game was exactly, but I'm guessing it was after all your troubles and after you'd got new owners so I would imagine the club in general had a positive vibe about it, encouraging people to go. Portsmouth hasn't really had that as our problems are ongoing and we haven't had much to cheer about on the pitch. Plus, your win ratio in League 1 during both seasons was pretty good, people could attend your games and expect to win, rather than wonder how many they're going to lose by. Of course, it's a shame that so many fans who were there for the cup final yet there are so few for league games but that's the case for most teams, that there's always high demand at cup finals and less demand for normal league games. Personally I would keep supporting Portsmouth even if they got relegated.
Well now I know why agent claus recommended huskelpop. What a player. Hope skates can avoid the drop though.
I'm not a fan of wumming but with the other results going our way it was too good an opportunity to resist...
Yeah we was ****. Didn't deserve to lose was pushing for a winner and they did us on the break. That's football. Rather lose to peterborough than be a dirty Scummer though. Fact. We'll still be waiting for you in December. Maybe you will turn up this time? 4-1 4-1 4-1 4-1 4-1 4-1 Pompey till I die
You are right of course. Your attendances aren't a disaster for the Championship anyway, particularly on a Tuesday v a crap team. We are lucky re facilities and I suppose Saints fans like to remind you occasionally, probably because they have been wound up by somebody... But we were having the same thoughts in 2008-9, 2004-5 and so on, and our gates were low then. And I don't think you have much chance of going down. Wow, I am feeling nice tonight.
