'Repeat something enough times and it becomes a given' .... .... 'systematically racist' is an example. Are black people systematically knife welding drug killers because a lot of them are? Is this board systematically riddled with Mags because @Somebodys pinched my sombrero and @haslam post? Is the British police force systematically racist because some of them are and would be if they were in another job? Calling an organisation systematically racist is a sweeping generalisation and quite possibly racist. Pointing out proven racists from the top of the police force, to the bottom, is right and proper ... ... saying it's systematic is lazy, pointless and a cheap shot.
That's just crap, I no one should feel accused if they select non-involvement. Like the Durham Square monstrosity I bet most local people couldn't give a **** and would be grateful if everyone shut up about it, or even 'we've grown up with that thing, iy's been there donkeys it's our monstrosity, now **** off'. The silent horde can do as they please.
Whatever people say, there is such a thing as systemic racism in this country I don't think that can be disputed.
How can you reach that conclusion? I would say that in the UK there is racism between all colours and that's what needs to change
It would help if you could spell out exactly what it means in less than 500 words ... ... to make a point you have to actually get to it.
tish tish Smug. I thought were behaving yourself. Can we please keep the tone of our dialogue civil and polite?
I am, I've just asked a perfectly reasonable question that you've just ignored, so I'll repeat it ... ... It would help if you could spell out exactly what it means in less than 500 words. And, I thought you said you'd stop being patronising and using ad hominem responses.
is a form of racism expressed in the practice of social and political institutions. It can lead to such issues as discrimination in criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, political power and education. I dont believe racism is as defined above, but there is racism between races
Of course there is but you're not allowed to mention it ... ... I said it once but I think I got away with it (BTW, if Fawlty Towers is banned can you still quote from it or dies that make me a racist as well as Cleese? )
Pretty sure you've come to the wrong place then! I usually try to stick to more facts but this topic doesn't really lend itself to that so I'll just give my opinions. To me, and I'm not saying this is the correct or only interpretation, saying it is systemic means it's affecting all of the system and processes. I'd say there is a lot of racism and that it needs to be something people are vigilant towards even after this has died down (and it will). I'm not convinced it's something that can be fixed, only that it can always be made more minimal. Although I do think it's difficult to gauge if fewer people actually are racist than previously it certainly seems the case and most importantly it just isn't acceptable in the manner it used to be. There will be many people who would have made comments in the past who now know they need to keep it to themselves, you can't expect people to change their thoughts and opinions (and it would be wrong to try) but that alone is progress. Whether racism really affects all of the processes in the country (and i thoroughly do not believe it does) is harder to gauge though as racists don't out themselves in the way they would have done previously. I'm sure there are some areas of society and some organisations who are more prone to racist/sexist/etc views or where it is more prevalent that people feel they can express them but even in those it would be unfair to just assume that they are "all like that" as it will still be the minority.
I would say that is a pretty fair and accurate definition of systemic racism Thankfully, we may not hear overtly racist abuse as often as we used to which does not mean it no longer exists. We have never kicked racism out of football and perhaps we never will, but where did that racism come from? As for your 2nd point, racism is racism.
As a final point, everyone is prejudiced and we can't really fight our nature in that regard. If a small child runs towards towards me it's less threatening than if a guy is and the bigger the guy is then the more anxious i get even if they're still at a bit of a distance. If a teenage girl puts her hand in her coat to pull something out the pocket i assume it's going to be a mobile phone rather than anything threatening. Pulling down statues raises awareness and telling people that they shouldn't be racist makes a correct point but to actually try and tackle issues you'd need to fix people being perceived as a threat due to the colour of their skin. That happens over generations through positive role models, education and majority societies accepting they need to change their views whilst minority societies show themselves to be far more than their stereotype.
So can we agree that there is racism in the UK, but to say there is systemic racism can and quite rightly is disputed
