While it is horrible, you take it to heart because you think united have the right to thrash other teams, they dont.

Bad team choice by alex ferguson, and it does prove that without rooney this season you'll struggle, if he goes off form....

I'm appalled at being 2 0 at home against an average Basel side and nearly ****ing losing it. That is shocking.

Mind it i repost this particular part of my OP

Injuries
Javier Hernandez
Wayne Rooney
Chris Smalling
Johhny Evans
Nemanja Vidic
Rafael da Silva
Tom Cleverly

Still not good though. City were dominated as well. Then take a look at the PL and English football really is in a state.

I don't think we have the right to anything, but we certainly have the quality to beat Basle at home. It was as bad a performance as we've seen in a long while - even the defeat to Barca wasn't that bad defensively.

Without Rooney, Vidic, Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Hernandez and Cleverley we almost certainly will struggle. But I don't follow your logic - we attacked fine but defended like dogs. Vidic was a much bigger absentee for us than Rooney in that game.

You attacked fine, but did you finish all that great? i dont really think so, but if you want to say you did sure thing.

Interesting Stat - The last time United failed to win their first 2 games of a CL campaign was in the 98/99 season.

Whats this about Tevez refusing to come on for city? Any truth to it.

Important equalizer there - with the double headers coming up hopefully Basle v Benfica will split the points.
We'll be in control of the group if we can beat Galati twice by the time Benfica come to town.

Not all that great, but we created and finished enough chances to score three goals. Which should have been enough to win any game if we'd defended competently. In fact, I didn't think our finishing was much worse than against Chelsea or Spurs, where we again scored three and created loads. Having Rooney or Hernandez available might have meant we scored four goals and won the game, but that wouldn't change the fact that our biggest problem was in defence.

I've said this before, the way we seem to setup this season will leave the opposition having more space and more chances. Usually our defence and keeper have bailed us out, but if you give the opposition nearly 10 chances, they are going to score at least once. Spurs couldn't capitalise, Arsenal did and should have scored more and Chelsea, well they could barely hit a barn door with a banjo but should have scored 10.

This defensive display doesn't surprise me, what did surprise me was the noticeable lack of attacking ability during their spell, how we seemed inable to keep hold of the ball or create any tempo considering that we did have that for most of the game beforehand.
