So, we are almost at the ten-games-in mark of the season. All is looking rosy at the moment, but nothing is ever perfect... ...or is it? I am interested to learn 1 - What 3 things you have been happiest with, so far? 2 - What 3 things have left you disappointed, so far? For me - 1 - Chris Solly's almost perfect performances. The ability to grind out wins away from home. The transparency of Michael Slater and his long term vision for the club. 2 - A lack of appearances from Danny Green. Throwing away points against Scunthorpe. Retaining Paul Benson. Cheers, guys. COYR!
Chris Solly, looking to keep in proving the squad, being top of the league. Green and Alonso (lack of), lack of game changing subs and concede to many goals.
1. Paul Hayes proving to be the perfect strike partner for BWP 2. WE HAVE A VAGUELY DECENT DEFENCE!!!!! 3. This team has fight, it will not accept being pegged back or going behind, unlucky last year. 1. Danny Green's non-appearances (although that's not really anyone's fault) 2. The second half performance against Sheff Wed 3. The fact that we can never build on a 2-0 lead (this being a 'disappointment' is testament to how well we've done)
1) Style of football being attempted 2) Unity (aggression) of a new squad (first evident @ Millwall pre-season after hard tackle on Wagstaff?, plus Notts County Away @ Full time) - first time in years were not a team full of P**sys that couldnt give a Feck. 3) Types of players brought in; Young, 'Hungry', Technically Good. (Excluding Hughes - Hes crap) 1) BWP infuriatingly lazy and casual (does get the odd goal though!) 2) Not finishing games off - Brighton, Southampton would tend to beat a team 3, 4, 5 - 0/1 when dominating games. Were still scraping wins after dominating. 3) Some tactical substitutions have been suspect.
1. value for money now with the price of a season ticket 2. staying undefeated for so long because of quality performances 3. all round improvements to the infrastructure (big screen, youth setup, fitness coach) and decent market strategy - £5 ticket promotions etc 1. some fans booing at not going forward quickly and almost wanting hoof ball again. 2. same substitutions week in week out - other clubs will clock this soon and take advantage 3. keeping some players who will never play for us again (francis, benson, doherty) 4. tea machines have changed, it now comes out looking like a cappuccino
1. Playing the passing game. 2. The quality of the goals we've scored. 3. The team spirit and passion are back. 1. The choice of substitutes(too defensive) 2.The use of substitutes(especially bringing on a centre-half for an attacker) 3.We seem to have a spell in each game where we just sit back.
1. A quality central midfield pairing 2. An absolute shared vision of all at the club 3. SCP dispelling the myth he's 'too nice' to succeed 1. The first 15 minutes after half time in most games 2. An unexciting bench (though this is an effect of the 5 subs rule) 3. Fans who seem to expect perfection
... You were absolutely ruining Solly at the start of the season Ponders...!! My three good and three bad are: Good: ⢠Matt Taylor & Michael Morrison⦠They both look like and play like a proper centre halves (although I do wonder why the latter insists on playing with the coat hanger still in his shirt). Love itâ¦!! ⢠Our footballing philosophy⦠Playing good passing football is one thing, but passing football that is also winning football is quite something else⦠Well done boys. ⢠The forward thinking in terms of player recruitment... The vast majority of the players brought in during the summer are of a good age and ability to continue playing for this club at a higher level. Thus hopefully maintaining a level of continuity in terms of personnel. Bad: ⢠Not bringing in adequate cover for BWP (by this I mean a player of his type). Just on the off chance he should he pick up a mid to long term injury. ⢠The bloody 5 subs ruleâ¦!! ⢠I also expected to see more of Danny Green. However he has imo been rightly been kept out of the side, mainly due to some quality performances from Waggy (who incidentally I ruined at the start of the season ).
You surely jest, Franco? I have always been Solly's greatest advocate. When others questioned his ability, stature and footballing nous, I defended him vociferously. You have me mistaken, my friend.
Good thread Ponders - I'm just going to cut and paste most of mine. 1. Chris Solly's performances. 2. Playing the passing game. 3. This team has fight, it will not accept being pegged back or going behind. 1. The use of substitutes. Tonight being an exception... 2. Not killing off sides when we have the chance. 3. The fact that in order to give us the best chance for promotion, the talented youngsters may have to wait another season to break through.
Hmmmmmmmm... I'm sute it was you...!! Apologies if not mate... (i'm off to delve deep into the archives ).
Ha! You will find no Solly criticism with my name on it. If you do, I will buy you a big bag of sausages!
Chris solly...team spirit....quality of football Disapointed with negative comments if we arent 1 0 up within 5 mins
I always find that sausages are a great ice-breaker and a token of warmth and mutual happiness. I do believe Graeme Le Saux is a big fan of the American Bender...!
good 3 1. How quickly this team has gelled together 2. Chris Solly - yes you will find comments next to me regarding Solly as the weakest link in the team but he's grown on me each game and looks very much part of the team now 3. How the club as a whole is being run by Michael Slater and co. if only there was some way we could show our appreciation bad 3 1. The reduction in the number of subs, I really just don't see why everyone has to suffer just because a few teams would like to take 2 less players to away games to save money ie 2 less hotel rooms to book, 2 less mouths to feed, surely if you only want 5 subs then just name 5 subs out of 7 2. Our ability to panic when 2-0 up as we've been pegged back from 2-0 up to 2-2 on 2 ocassions, almost 3 and not punish teams 4-0, 5-0 etc 3. The emergence of Jonathon Acworth on not606

1.) BWP goalscoring form 2.) Quality of the football (at times) 3.) A pre-season that showed the commitment of the owners 1.) Simon Francis 2.) Alonso and Green not really featuring 3.) Simon Francis featuring.
