Must be the worst actions of a Captain and Vice Captain in the history of the club. No bottle for the scrap. Players with awful injury problems have signed on til the end. Good riddance to both.
Irrelevant, he's a 31 year old with no contract for next season, who'd rather risk injury playing, than sit on his arse at home. As it should be.
Don't you think there's more to it than that. The two players you might expect to be most up for it. Say they are on £8k and £6k per week, would you think it's likely that Ehab asked them to sign a contract for £6k and £5k per week with it dropping to £4k per week in the event of relegation? Wouldn't that convince them to not sign a short term contract in case of injury and look for another club?
Irrelevant? You are comparing him with players who don't want to play for the same club who may have offered them derisory terms.
It's irrelevant with regard to agreeing to play the last nine games, what they do for next season is entirely their choice.
But I go back to the Phil Buckingham article - he doesn't think Lichaj and Irvine were offered an extension to cover the last 9 games, they were offered a further year on reduced terms. So the comparison with King isn't entirely fair. If Lichaj and Irvine were offered a one month extension and refused it, even on reduced terms, that is appalling. But the way PB writes it up, it's more nuanced than that.
Irvine was definitely offered a deal for the last nine games, it's all he was offered, with discussions about a new contract delayed until after this season had been completed. Phil's comments about Lichaj did suggest that he'd only been offered a new one year deal, but his article today says 'Lichaj, Irvine and Kingsley have all failed to agree short-term contract extensions to extend their time at the KCOM Stadium by another month and will now leave as free agents on June 30'. In addition, I see that Lichaj spoke to a journalist this week and it sounds like he refused to agree a short term deal as he thought he deserved more, after helping the club agree the wage deferment with the players.
Chelsea have completed a deal to sign striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. Should be an exciting addition to the league, he's scored 32 in 43 this season.
Knowing as we do the owners' history on contract extensions and negotiations, my first instinct is to side with Lichaj, Irvine and Kingsley. But then I look around and see people all over the country dealing with difficult job situations, and many stepping up and going above and beyond as they recognise the strange and uncertain times that we are in. And that makes me wonder why the club captain and vice-captain couldn't show some leadership to get us to the end of the season. When the going gets tough they've got going, maybe they thought we're going down anyway and didn't want to be a part of that? It's a difficult one. I suppose I remain disappointed in both sides that something a bit more creative couldn't be done to retain them from the club side, and a bit more commitment from the players wouldn't have gone amiss.
There are players doing the exact same thing arent there at other clubs? If so then everyone of them is an utter ****. I would be disappointed if my club bought a player who does that to his current club.
Lichaj will be a miss, solid dependable right back, Irvine, there's been times when he needed a break from the starting 11 but he's worth a place in the match day squad week in week out for sure. On the contract extension side of things, there's no loyalty in football, and that works both ways, clubs owe players nothing and vice versa. It can't be right to criticise Irvine and Lichaj for not playing on for a few extra weeks through their choice when we've pied off **** like Kingsley through the clubs choice.
If we were a well run club and had decent, well respected owners, then yes, a captain & vice captain bailing out on the club when we need them is pretty poor. As we're an absolute disaster and have some of the worst owners in the country who season after season **** up with player contracts, then I dont FOR ONE SECOND blame any of our players for turning down a shoddy short term deal with no assurances for their future. Loyalty in football works both ways for me and our owners show none to anybody. There's a reason we've had several different starting 11's in recent years. The Allams refuse to offer contracts in the conventional way. We've let far too many players walk away for nothing due to poor contract management. If a player is not good enough for the team, sell them in their final year and replace them with someone on a longer contract. Dont let their current deal end and then try to sit down for talks, your basically telling the player and his agent that you couldnt give a **** if he signs or not.
Almost everyone has now sorted their players until the end of the season, we've lost four, Charlton have lost three and Boro have lost one, but they're the only ones I can see in the Championship.
UEFA has announced that the transfer window is to close on Oct 6th for its European competitions and has called on all countries leagues to follow suit.
All the other players who signed short term deals managed to look past the allams etc... These 2 are just selfish knobs in my eyes and deserve absolute dogs abuse a - if they ever return to play against us and b - if we are allowed in the ground at the time haha
When does the transfer window open? After the end of the Premier League games or the FA Cup Final? Is it still 26 July 2020?
What I still don't understand is why we paid (allegedly) a substantial loan fee for Maddison when we were never going to meet his wage demands to sign him. That cash was totally wasted. (Best run club etc.)
