Not forgetting his amazing inabilty to dominate the penalty area with his height on high balls. Lost 71 duels in the air!! For his height it should be a lot less.
Vesty is such an odd case. Prone to a high profile error now and then but at times his #numbers are up with some of the better players in the division. I think it must be either an incompatibility with system or we don’t have the right partner to get the best from him. He’s also got that Crouchiness where he just looks awkward sometimes and his footballing strengths are not necessarily in line with his generic gifts. I do think he’s a better player than people give him credit for but probably not for us. Think he’ll do well if he does go to Leicester. They have (generally) good recruitment and must have seen something that suits them.
I would cry if Morgan does move for just £2m (happy tears if to us, sad tears if to anyone else). Obviously it depends on his wage demands, but £2m is nothing. Even if he really can't ever get back close to his form for us. I think it's cost us more to have Danso here for a year?
I love that we finally have a clear recruitment profile after a few years of treading water and short-term fixes and people want to sign Morgan, Lallana and other ex-players sliding towards retirement! If we’re short on money to invest, there’s very little to justify signing them. Low fees, yeah but high wages when we already spend a lot on players who we don’t use. The Athletic had an article last week about how Lallana would be a spectacularly ill-judged signing for us. The comments had a surprising amount of people who wanted him, Morgan and even Clyne! If we’re going for a nostalgia act, can we at least get my best boys Jo Tessem and Brett Ormerod? I think Tess still turns out in non-League in Poole!
Lallana would be a 'No' from me. If we need a fix for midfield if PEH was to go, a focussed and committed Morgan (the caveat) for that low fee would be seriously tempting to me. Its not about nostalga, we lack a strong midfield as it is and if he could do the job... besides, l miss my first Not606 avatar: him!
The very lovely Mrs Godders says she is ready and raring to drive up to Liverpool and bring him home although I wouldn't trust her once she has him in her car.
Lallana is a simple one for me. Whilst he would be our best player, he would also be on the highest wage and extremely likely to get injured. After the money we have/still are wasting on wages, to hand out a huge contract to someone that will likely rarely play would be crazy. If it wasn't for his injury record I'd have him back in a heartbeat, but as it is, it is a big no from me.
The talk of Lallana and Schneiderlin are hopefully without foundation. Having told us that we now have a clear recruitment policy (young, ready to be improved), those two would make us a laughing stock. Not to mention the wages they would demand.
I thought that Ralph had made it clear that the players we would be signing are those looking for their first big contract/move, at a young age, so I can’t imagine he would be looking to bring in high earning, end of career players.
I’d be astonished if any of them happened. Would be worrying if they did. Like I said, it’s been short term bullshit for years now and now we seem to have something resembling a plan. Let’s not throw it out the window at the first opportunity. Although it would be quite “on brand” for us!
Yep, way too old for how Saints want to do business. Happy memories with them both, but time to move on.
Very good prospect, would be a great signing. Doubt we have much of a chance tbh, linked with Real as well
I'd suggest that the Lallana talk is indeed without foundation. I'd suggest that a free transfer to Leicester has pretty much been sealed behind the scenes. But because of wanting to wait until either Liverpool win the title, or Leicester secure a CL place (dropping out of the top 4 might be either party have a late change of heart), nothing has yet been finalised and announced. I'm convinced it'll happen though.
Southampton are in talks over a possible deal to sign Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu after the player reportedly backed away from agreeing a deal with Rennes to speak with Saints. According to a report from SER Deportivos in Spain, Salisu has broken away from talks with the Ligue 1 side at the last minute to negotiate with Southampton, although it remains to be seen what the terms of any deal with the Premier League club would be. With the Ghanaian star set to be out of contract in 2022, it looks like Valladolid have decided to sell him this summer, rather than lose him for free in 12 months time.
