You are like Johnson, you are digging yourself into a hole. Paris is in the list of tourist areas which is why I mentioned the DIY chain that tried it on.

The person actually living in France keeps getting his facts wrong. Isn't it important when coming out with sweeping statements that at least some of it is correct?
I was surprised that those French supermarkets which opened on a Sunday traded longer than those allowed in the UK.

I'm trying to dig you out of a deep hole you have dug yourself, keep backtracking. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

If you bothered to check there are many all around France, which makes a nonsense of your original statement.

It is little wonder that you wish to change the subject. As more evidence comes out about your government fiddling the figures over testing kits, I trust that you feel ashamed of their lies, or have you taken it in and believed everything you have been told?

Well all I can say is that the last time we were in England we saw a supermarket in Stoke Newington with an apology that on Easter Sunday they would only be open until 10 pm ! I honestly do not think there is anywhere on this planet where such opening hours are possible - my German wife was horrified by it.

Sunday shopping in the UK is probably as busy as Saturday, the public love having the choice and take full advantage of this freedom. I can see why France is gradually easing the Sunday trading restrictions.

I think you are conveniently changing the subject. Might be best if you do some homework before coming out with dodgy information, particularly about your home subject.

As I think everyone can see you have made yourself look rather foolish tonight. I was giving you the chance to speak about and defend if you wish the latest fiasco from the government which is on topic. I take you have an opinion?

It is you that has looked foolish with so many of your 'facts' being proved utterly wrong. My opinion is you should take notice of changes going on outside your little hamlet. It is you that brought up the subject of comparing shopping malls. I just helped correct your several unfortunate items of misinformation.

So you do not wish to defend the government that you voted for? If you have turned into a person prepared to say that they are leading people up the garden path, that would stand you in a far higher esteem. You are not doing yourself or them any favours by refusing to address the issues of the day.

When the pandemic is over there will be ample time to assess the performances of the UK government, senior scientists / medical advisers, the NHS and the teaching unions. Other countries will be doing their own assessments on performance and finding the best ways to prepare for the next occurrence.

The 'public' is made up of workers and families SH. What is left of the chance for families to be together if the weekend is destroyed for more and more workers ?

I'm sure many workers have no problem working on a Sunday, there is clearly a demand from the public to shop when they like. With the rise in internet shopping, and especially the domination of Amazon, this is not the time to inhibit the high street's viability.

Do you like working on Sundays ? Everyone needs at least a day of the week which is free from having to work - if those 'free days' are staggered through the week - some will have monday free, some tuesday etc. etc. then family and social life will be destroyed. If families do not have one day of the week for each other then social structures begin to break up, and we know where that leads. Doubtless if shops are open then the customers will be there - but that is a different thing from saying that the public wants unrestricted Sunday shopping. It is absolutely no inconvenience whatsoever for the public to know that they can only shop within certain hours. If you allow Sunday shopping everywhere then you also have to demand that more bus and train drivers have to work on Sundays, and where does it end ? I agree that there is a problem with internet shopping - but the way around this is for shop owners to turn their premises into multi function ones.

His sole interest is to find a theme to wind up those on here who will 'bite'. And then jump to another issue...

I believe in giving people the choice to shop on a Sunday should they wish to. I am also keen to promote employment opportunities and to assist the high street in competing with the internet. There is clear evidence that Sunday shopping suits millions of people. The UK government is considering extending Sunday opening hours to help commerces recover from the effects of the pandemic, a good idea.
