"The police did everything they could not to charge her with murder." And what was that? TBH a handful of examples, on either side, doesn't prove anything ...
So you accept there is some racism. What is the requisite amount of racism necessary for you to say that something needs to change? As for the rest, if the government and police admit there are problems with institutional racism, finding examples of good officers is fine, but it doesn't in any way compare with official reports into them does it? Again, I haven't compared us to the US because they have bigger issues with race, but that doesn't mean we have none, and while we do, why should it not be pointed out? Why does it personally get your back up to see it protested against?
Yep its outrageous. There's another awful one of LV police killing a guy outside an apartment literally crying and begging them not to kill him. He was white. It's ****ing awful and I stand against that too, in fact I use that as a perfect example of why the police in america are off the rails. What you have to understand is that nobody is saying 'black lives matter more than white people's'. This is about clear statistics and examples of police brutality caught on camera that say the problem is disproportionately applied to black people.
Im not 'accepting there's racism' because of anything you've said, I've already said there's racism to which I'm totally opposed. Nor have I said things don't need to change and improve, they do. You could quite easily argue that the police officer, who readily reported her colleague, shows that the police force isn't totally and systematically racist. The head of NPs pro-standards further shows that may well be the case and encourages ethic minorities to apply for the force. So that's a colleague, a senior officer and the court all suggesting the system isn't necessarily a bastion of racism. Would you agree with that or is your position fixed? You claim the examples you've posted are facts ... ... yet blithely dismiss examples of good officers and courts. What I've posted are facts, the officers and court as opposed to one probationary officer with whom you chose to prove your point ... and failed.
I'm saying that there are actually cases live right now where that's exactly what is happening, so pulling out a few examples where officers were punished doesn't mean some officers are going unpunished because the police close ranks about them and obfuscate investigation. I'm not using one example to say nobody is ever punished. We're certainly better than the US in some ways. That doesn't mean there aren't problems with how we police, and that it is disproportionately aimed at black people. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/metropolitan-police-officer-accused-racism-22114788
Would you agree that racism is not solely a white persons opinion of others? Racism is everywhere and it has been since the dawn of time. Some call it tribalism. You might feel that i'm coming across as a bit of a bigot but i'm far from it. I hate everyone equally. If you're a ****er you're a ****er and colour or religion doesn't come into it. If anything, we in white society have become so anti rascist that the people we prejudice the most are those of our own colour/ethnicity. In Australia, there is a box on any government form asking if you're indigineous. If you tick yes then you qualify for a bucket load more benefits. Where's the equality in that?
I agree black and asian people can be racist and are. When I see examples of black police officers brutalising white people disproportionately in our nation's capital, I'll be the first one marching.
So why aren't you marching now ... ... the people being disproportionately brutalised are British. Your entire standpoint appears to be based on the colour of people's skin.
Ok then i'll bite. What is the violent crime rate in USA per capita based on race? What is the actual population ration in the USA? If we start with these we may be able to do some statistical analysis for ourselves and ignore the media. Stats are your thing aren't they?
That was the point. That anyone can pull out examples, yet I've pulled out actual reports by the government and the IPCC, and you're arguing with them too. I notice you (as usual) find a way to go for an ad hominem attack rather than actually... you know... focus on the actual substance.
They are, but I'm not going to pretend I know more than people who investigate this for a living. Any response to the statista link above? They're not part of the 'media'.
Just to help. the US cencus figures are below (2019) https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045219 Now we'll look at the FBI crime data figures from a previous post of mine (2016 to be fair). just a quick glance would lead one to ask why 13% of the population are committing 37% of the violent crimes? As they say, if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and sounds like a duck then it probably is a duck. I understand why police may be a little more cautious when arresting those of african american descent as it's much more bloody dangerous.
Oh behave this is ridiculous, I said I'd be out on the streets if white people were being brutalised by a majority black police force. They aren't. Got a problem with that too I assume?
The bit in bold is where you're doing exactly that. You're also cherry picking bits of posts and ignoring anything you can't answer, as other people have pointed out. You'd only march based on the colour of people's skin, you just said that. This 'ad hominem' piffle is becoming the new 'I have to go out now' smokescreen tbh.
Haha I'm not getting into this with you based on some of the things you've said. Good luck to you, but in my experience, you have to believe that everyone is equal as a starting point for an empirical view of people. As you clearly believe black people are in some way naturally more inclined towards violence, even if I proved (as I have) that black people are targets of violent assault by police at a disproportionate rate, you are just going to justify it by saying it's their own fault. I don't think all cops are bad, but I do believe they have a higher level of responsibility to live up to and should be punished for breaching that. Agree to disagree, if you want. You might think denying it now is a short term win, but black people have to be treated fairly and equally, and justice seen to be done as it is for whites. They won't just go away, it hurts everyone if they get a different brand of justice to others. The stats are there, if you want to buy into fox news and Tucker Carlson, I already know there is no point entering into this in good faith.
