    He's ****e for me and is living off some goals last season for Birmingham. 5m? Cabaye cost less or the same! His general play is poor and that is the problem, hence he ended up being used at right back by Villa and eventually left. He lacks quality on the ball and was Sunderland's worst buy IMO. They needed a ball playing midfielder. He'll run all day long and is fit as a fiddle but for me a central midfielder who is there to create needs to have passing ability. He's anonymous half the time. The other lad from Blackpool looks a better footballer to be honest. I'd rather play Guthrie and I don't rate him!

    This.

    They've signed him as a "goalscoring midfielder", and at 24 he has just 18 goals in all competitions over his entire career. We had an actual proven goalscoring midfielder (Nolan) and have made ourselves into a better team by replacing him with a passer (Cabaye).

    Honestly I would and anyone who reads these boards knows my feeling on him! I'd take Abeid above him and he's just a kid. Ok Guthrie is not great but I can't see what Gardner adds. He got 10 goals last year and because of his age people probably thought "he's improving", but this is why I don't like stats. I watched them a few times and he grafted his nuts off. But at the end of the day they were losing the games because the other team were controlling possession. This is because he didn't have the culture. Sunderland were crying out for a Cabaye type player who could work the football.

    delusion :) dont rate sess after seeing him tommorow was absolute cak and on that basis i really wouldnt take any sunderland player into our team

    I randomly read the BBCs live updates on it last night and this made me laugh:

    I'd call it a Titus Bramble goal myself. He wasn't even close to Leon Barnett when the cross came in."
