It seems he has played his last game for Groningen but I refuse to get excited about him given our recent recruitment. Welcome to the new Sadio Mane.
Wow that price tag should put everyone off. Southampton are unlikely to accept less than £35m for skipper Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The 24-year-old Denmark midfielder is a target for Everton and Tottenham. (Evening Standard)
I think a lot of people are underestimating how good Pierre is and just how good he can be. He's only 24 so he's got time on his side. Mind you that is a lot of money for someone who's only got a year left on their contract.
I agree Tom he is a good player and has time to grow and improve , but is he top 6 player ? No IMO, but £35m for a player with as you say not long left on contract , I would be tempted to cash in.
£35m for Hojbjerg would be very good business, especially as he has just 1 year left on his contract. I do find it odd that he talks about wanting to play in & win the Champions League & Premier League, yet he hasn't even been the best player in a relegation threatened side over the past couple of years.
Think if either Everton or Spurs splash £35 on him now rather than wait until January they are crazy. Have to admit that I have seen very little of him, but if Carlo says £35m is a fair price and want's him at Goodison then I won't complain, it's not my money he is spending.
You have a fair point, however, I find it odder that he wants to win the Champions League and might join Everton...!?!!!??
Being honest £35m would be superb business for us, I wouldn’t be upset if we sold him far from it. We have an exciting academy prospect coming through who according to those who watch him say we wouldn’t miss PEH and have a good transfer fee in the process.
If he wants to be in a league winning side and play Champions League football then we should send him to Celtic on a swap deal with Olivier Ntcham!
Should have stayed at Bayern Munich if he wanted to be at a champions league team (wouldn’t have played) but there you are.
I'm sort of with Tom on this one, Pierre was very good for quite a long period which saw him win the captaincy. It's true that he was out of sorts at the start of this season for a while but then so was JWP and a few other key players when Ralph's experimentation meant that lack of continuity saw the team's form suffer. He is still a long way from his peak as a player and I think that he will get better but if Ralph thinks it is prudent to cash in then so be it and it could be that he sees Will Smallbone as a future replacement.
Alex Jankewitz is being touted as a replacement for PEH from the academy......I would expect him to get a run out before the end of the season.
