Agree. Maybe if Cummings had said 'I am sorry for going to the castle and will make up for it' then some may have accepted that (not all). His problem was to come across as arrogant and think that the public is stupid? Personally I think he needed to apologise.
Well maybe they are protecting an asset or maybe they believe he didn't do anything wrong? I said before Stroller The first part of the story is okay but the visit to the castle was wrong.
We did the right things at the right time. I feel sorry for all those countries that did the wrong thing at the wrong time.
It definitely would have helped if there was a hint of some contrition and acceptance of the wrong doing. The rallying round the cabinet did in support of him was ugly and wrong though and if anything made him look even more guilty.

I know that it doesn't change things in terms of your experience but I hope to offer some explanation; I am the only person managing the customer response side of things for the Online Superstore due to having to place team members on furlough leave and I am doing my best, but I am struggling to be able to respond or answer the majority of emails and phone calls. It isn't good enough, and it is something we are looking at how we can improve going forwards, but again that takes time and people that we currently don't have. I am also working remotely, so it has been a communication challenge to pass on the details to the small team working at the warehouse and get responses back for every order. They are working as hard as they possibly can to pick and pack orders, and any time taken away from them doing that then adds further delays. To maintain a safe working environment for our team we can only have the minimum number of people in the warehouse, and they have to keep safe distancing and follow thorough cleaning processes. This has meant they are only able to fulfil a certain number of orders a day. The impact on staffing was sudden and we weren't prepared for the impact it would have on customer orders, and we can only apologise again. Issues with Royal Mail tracking and stock levels have also been unexpected and we just haven't had the staff to be able to deal with it effectively. We are currently waiting on printing materials so personalised shirts are further delayed, and we are awaiting further stock deliveries. This has been a very steep learning curve for us and we hope that we can only do better going forwards. Our team are also customers and know how we would feel in your shoes, especially those of you who have ordered for birthdays or gifts and feel let down that we haven't delivered in time for those. Again, our sincerest apologies for the delays, and sorry from me personally for not being able to give the standards of customer service expected. So it would have been brilliant if we had simply closed our borders when we reached 100 cases, just like New Zealand did, on 19 March. For us that would have been 5 March. But we never closed the borders, or went into a proper lockdown. We are now the worst hit in Europe and still have the worst daily numbers. New Zealand is COVID free with 22 deaths, and opening up properly.

If we had closed the borders at the start then we would have really changed the structure of the pandemic For clarification to the non scientists..Each of those events accounts for a very slightly different virus, indicating a different source for each of them and a different time scale too, it takes time for the virus to mutate. So it wasn't just 4 planes of 350 people...it means 1300 very different people at least, over a length of time. So if we had closed our borders after the man from Brighton came back from his holiday (already proved not to be patient zero, as it was in the country at least 3 weeks before) we would have had deaths in only in the hundreds/low thousands. We wait until June 8th to close our borders....partially
I’m just commenting on what you posted. Of course we don’t do comparisons if they don’t favour us. Germany also closed its borders on March 16. But it’s not exactly the same shape and population as the UK so we should ignore the fact that it has had less than 10,000 deaths.
They record deaths as we do in our lowest level...so compare to our 40,000 deaths then, but not to our 60,000 deaths. Perhaps you can tell it upsets and hurts me whether it is 40k or 60 K. So unnecessary, so devastingly sad
