Mate I know all this, but the thing that also needs to be factored in was the warped mentality where hypocrisy like the one you've highlighted were not even registered because 400 years ago attitudes were dictated by the privileged. And those attitudes could quite comfortably believe in the bible whilst at the same time seeing black people as exempt from it. I'll give you a perfect modern day example of the same. Go to Saudi Arabia - the bastian, the custodian of Islam (supposedly) - reading Quranic texts every day, a religious doctrine which deliberately focuses on the message that all men are considered equal and that good and bad is about intent. Then look at the way they treat people from the Asian subcontinent. Like animals. It doesn't really matter what you and I think in our progressive society, they despite all their wealth and state of the art technology, weapons, regional power, are one of the most abhorrent motherfcking ****s around in the way they treat other human beings simply because of the colour of their skin whilst at the same time believing they are the paragons of virtue. That's the kind of bubble the likes of Colston thrived in.
