That don't really state what your position is on the statue being removed by protestors though. Do you agree with Starmer or disagree or you going to play the politician
Truth is I haven't really made my mind up and don't think one size fits all. I don't want people going round pulling down statues just because they don't like them, but I do think after nearly 35 years of trying to get an plaque changed or the statue removed then people will get a bit miffed and take the law into their own hands. What they did was wrong but I hope the people who did it are not prosecuted and the statue ends up in a museum. Maybe it's a political answer, I don't think so . It's just an honest one.
Given our dubious past histories of empire etc should we not tear down everything that has connotations of that history?
Actually why you guys are ripping the piss. What was the road/pass that the Russians built with prisoners, cost thousands of lives I think. Basically if you was done for a crime, regardless of how minor, you were sent to work on this road. BUT...not just you, your family to and eventually, it even became any relation, because they were so desperate for workers, because of the death toll. I've probably over exaggerated all this, but it's how I remember it. @Archers Road will probably know, he's the historical genius around here.
I really wasn’t. It’s a fair assessment that if they’re starting to tear down anything to do with slavery then everything is surely fair game and abhorrent to these protesters.
It's not opinion, it's research that's nearly 20 years old. The key was the discovery of the workers city.
