Mate ... don't just remember them, actually saw them live ... the Chimps were from Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire and they would stage a tea party at the zoo ... was a memorable day out for us as kids
Everyone would love me to be a cop. The local neighbourhood, the protestors, especially the criminals
Just think though, without cops the likes of comm would be king of this world. Suits comm, doesnt suit me
Mate you'd be a badass police officer. I see you like a Poncherelli in Chips. You'd need the bike though, and the shades.
I mentioned it earlier mate. https://www.not606.com/threads/george-floyd-r-i-p.383982/page-115#post-13859176 Circa 2m slaves dies in a similar fashion during the transatlantic slave trade.
The slave name issue was public knowledge, just not something I personally knew. As was the reparation payments. There’s actually a database of the people who got paid out. The family of both Gladstone and Cameron being just two of them. The former having received the equivalent of circa £80m in today’s money in compensation for his 2,000+ slaves.
Britain in the 17th Century was a Christian country. A cursory knowledge of the bible makes it very clear that slavery was abhorrent in the eyes of god (a god people at that time widely believed in). At a time when the majority of people went to church every week, there was arguably even less justification for slavery back then than there ever has been since. One of the most powerful scenes in the movie 12 Years a Slave, is the one where, on a Sunday morning, the Benedict Cumberbatch character is reading to his slaves from the ****ing bible.
Not sure tea was ever harvested by slaves was it? Sugar and coffee were, but not tea as far as I’m aware. Certainly not under the East India tea company, who did more than anyone else to help build the British Empire. They had their own private army and behaved like real ****s, but pretty sure they weren’t slavers. I think @Diego just made that up to make his point. History. It matters.
Call me a gammon or whatever but Sadiq Khan shouldn’t be deciding which parts of this country’s history he wants to diminish in order to satisfy the angry mob. This country is already leaps and bounds ahead of most other nations for diversity, there’s no need to erase history to make a point, as it sets a dangerous precedent. At what point are we going to see Abu Hamza’s house ripped down, or Tony Blair publicly hanged, if the bad people have to be erased?
Sadiq can be a bit of a dick, but his ability to provoke frenzied gammon-rage among the Daily Mail ***** spanners, is an absolute joy to behold.
Keir Starmer saying it was wrong of the protesters to tear down that statue. Maybe this guy won’t listen to the majority of the mong brigade in the Labour Party. Interesting. Keep it up Starmer, I might vote for you yet
He's upset a few but I broadly agree with his stance that this statue should've been removed long ago. It would've been very odd for a former DPP and someone who wants to be PM if they had condoned criminal activity.
