I asked Will in another post. I'm interested in what you think is going wrong with the black community in the UK
Let's then move on to apologising for the way they dealt with the windrush scandal. Theres a start hey.
It runs f Because theyve had enough of being treated as 2 nd class citizens. Had enough of racism right from the very top in our country, flowing through many organisations, right to the bottom. The opportunities lessened by the colour of their skin, the oppression, years and years of it stuck with them. The list is endless. You may be best asking a black youth of today that question although enough have stated them on tv.
We are not just protesting for change in the UK, this is a global issue in which we unite. However the three factors that I would love to see addressed as a starter for 10 are poverty. Poverty breeds poverty, which leads to lack of opportunity and puts people at a disadvantage from day one, this is race related as due to the way in which people have come to the country over the years this is more prevalent in BAME communities, however it will be great for all those born into poverty, regardless of ethnicity. Education, be that what is being taught and certainly educational opportunities, ties in with the poverty issue. Thirdly we must shut down those peddling the hate be that outright or thinly veiled, the ****ing mail should have been shut down years back, also this extends all over social media, I often see the same people posting the same meme's, usually factually incorrect, the source of these should be held accountable, as well as those forwarding it. I myself have found out that something I've posted has been wrong, but would think twice about posting anything like that if I was held accountable, it might make people think before they pass something on, I've called out so many people out on incorrect posts, especially on faceache, by the time I've done it the damage is already done and I'm seen as the bad one, the one in the wrong for pointing out the nonsense! I could go on for ever, one thing I think everyone should do is listen to Akala, hopefully with an open mind. This guy has a great way of explaining things, very knowledgeable, has information to back up his assertations.
They have the opportunity for a good education - it's there if they want to take it. They can start businesses. That's what a lot of Jewish people did when they fled Germany. And Uganda Asians. They don't like stop and search but look at the number of murders that take place in London every year by black gang members. There was someone on the radio today wanting to be compensated for slavery that ended a couple of centuries ago. They cannot go through their lives being permanent victims.
I've been following this thread interestingly and goldie raises a good point. The above is all well and good bob and of course racism exists. What actions can be specifically be taken to reduce this. People don't just suddenly "change" if they are already racist. put out black person quotas in company hires? Arrest anyone who argues with a black person? add more black people into our education syllabus? not arrest black people if no violent crimes have been committed? Fire all our police and hire new police using some anti racism test?
Absolutely the straw which broke the camels back, I've seen so much whataboutary and so much concentration on the actions of the few, but very few who will accept the wrongs, agree that those actions should be dealt with, then be interested in what the majority of protesters are there for
If the protest is for change outside the UK, then it makes the attack on the OB even more senseless. As far as opportunity is concerned, I cannot think of another country where there is more than in the UK. That is why people are crossing the Channel to get here.
The daily mail is a disgrace and has a racist stance. However, as misleading as the daily mail is, i'm not sure you can put it up to specific charges. I would personally do away with most media but then you are left with a national mouth piece and we would become more like china (and there would be less investigative journalism i suspect). Social media is disgusting though but it's one of those unpoliceable domains. Again, if you ban that **** we would again be moving towards a more autocratic state.
Ohhhhhhhhhh Bob. Nobody with any credibility is seriously suggesting any of that, maybe a shouty individual, that's the sort of narrative I see constantly peddled out by those dismissing, but not by those who seriously want change.
