Not sure that's true. I get it that we've moved on from the casual racism of calling people 'darkies' etc, but Churchill wasn't just a 'little bit racist', he was in a position of power and made decisions that led to the deaths of 4 million Bengalis and them blamed them for it for 'breeding like rabbits'. He actively supported gassing 'uncivilised tribes' and completely denounced native american rights to their land because a 'superior race' had taken over. He was every bit the privileged white supremacist, and he should be rightly called out for it, because history has tried to sweep all of that under the carpet.
I agree. The Police should have the right equipment and anybody who is wilfully attacking the police should be met with the full force and taken off the streets.
I wasn't really meaning his deeper held views ... more that the majority tended to blindly follow the leader of the country, especially during the war ...
Churchill was an absolute **** of a man. An inexcusably unprincipled ****bag, so it’s no surprise Boris Johnson worships him. But he did see Hitler for what he was when practically every other politician in Britain and abroad was in denial. He did a good job of helping Roosevelt mobilise public opinion against Hitler in the US. And he recognised the importance of forming an alliance with the USSR. For those reasons we probably should all be grateful tbf. He didn’t win us the war though. Ordinary men and women did that, through their courage, hard work and sacrifice. The “football lads” and “patriots” who claimed to be guarding his statue - ****ed that up, didn’t you lads? - would have been full on fascists in the 1930s, no question.
In case it’s escaped your notice Trump is somewhat inextricably linked with the entire George Floyd issue. Also, the TR twitter link was posted by me, and if you’d actually clicked on it, you’d have seen it was him ranting about the BLM protests only edited with Parklife and the video, or in other words, it’s a ****ing piss take. Bleating about a thread you’ve been actively posting in is pretty special.
