No doubt MLK junior did some great work, that was over 50 years ago yet here we are today and progress is absolutely miles away from equality. Colin Kaepernick tried peaceful protest .... and was blacklisted from the sport he loved. Plenty of others have peacefully protested and it's fallen on deaf ears.

The vast majority of the protests and the protesters are peaceful, some of those causing the chaos have been discovered to have been saboteurs. Others have caused chaos, damage. I certainly don't condone it but I empathise with some of the actions. For me the biggest mistakes that are being made are attacking property which won't help, some are challenging the actions of historical figures, some like the actions in Bristol I thought were an absolute step forward... others not so wise, they aren't wrong to challenge peoples perception as history has been selective, but when change will only be accomplished by getting more and more people on side uncomfortable truths will only go to push some who might be sympathetic further away.

For me lots more peaceful protests should be held, certain amount of disruption so it can't be ignored is fine, just never stop. Protest after protest, I've suggested to a group I'm involved with to do a sit in on the main pedestrian street in my local town centre, we can all sit 2 meters apart cover enough of the street that will allow for pedestrians to go either side but with enough participation we could take the central part of the street from one end to the other. We couldn't be ignored and it would definitely get media coverage.

What group is that then Wills ? And where ?
Do you agree with attacks on the Police ? And if so would you personally do the attacking or just agree with it ?

    So many questions

I've said I empathise with some of the actions, I certainly don't condone or support other actions, I can see with the failure of peaceful protest to make change frustration is rife and more and more needs to be done, but violence and the destruction of emotive public statues or memorials isn't going to help bring people closer only push those who might be sympathetic further away causing further divide. Sorry about the vagueness of my first two answers, there are a few on the wider 606 community who will take any opportunity to doxx you so I choose to take anonymity on here and don't give answers that might help identify me

I am not saying all protesters are bad but the ones that defaced or destroyed statues and attacked police need to be arrested and jailed if guilty.
I saw people goading the police screaming in their faces and some almost spitting at them. They need a quick bash, thrown in a van and taken away. Not needed in a decent society.
This protest has lost the main issues and is turning into anarchy. Attacking the police and putting 2 in hospital is indefensible.

Actually listening to decent people on TV and Radio this morning they agree with the comments of Boris and Patel. You need to stop listening to anti-government news. The people I have spoken to have all said that attacking the police and defacing statues is disgusting.

I'd disagree with some of that, if you are letting the actions of a minority distract you from the main message that is a terrible attitude, change needs to be made, you can accept that change is required, be part of that change and still condemn certain actions that have taken. It's like suggesting that all football supporters should be written off as a bunch of racist hooligans just because of Chelsea. I saw the taking down of the statue in Bristol as an excellent step forward, great symbolism, however I would still condemn the violence and the destruction of certain other property and statues.

It is the Police "cracking a few skulls" and giving black people a "quick bash" that caused the problem in the first place...

Sorry Wills, but it’s all very subjective.......where does it end ?
So you’re ok about Coulstons statue being torn down by the mob but not say......Churchill’s. Now others might think Churchill’s needs tearing down.....ok fair enough. But what if the next mob decide Mandelas statue needs tearing down.....or Gandhi’s (You’ll be surprised how many Asians I know who hate Gandhi).......Who decides what should be torn down and what should stay ?
Just trying to understand the reasoning, but please note.....I think Coulstons statue SHOULD of been taken down, however mob rule ain’t the way ‘cos it opens too many doors for others.

Rubbish. It's not up to some mob to take down a statue. Does this mean we should throw the Nelson Mandela one in the Thames because he offends some people?
Where do we stop Wills... let's pull down the Pyramids because slaves made them? What next... shall we pull down the cenotaph because it offends some?
Stop being an apologist for a load of soap dodgers that go out to cause violence. I hope the police come down hard on these idiots who are hell-bent on causing trouble... black or white.

I honestly dont give a flying **** that people ripped a statue of a slave trader down. Good on them. Like I said before, people are sick of words, rhetoric, meaningless slogans.

All the recent riots in history apart from the Poll tax one were after acts of alleged police mistreatment of a black person, you can't ignore the fact that racism has caused mistrust of the authorities. Johnsons casual racist language and the Windrush scandal doesn't help either.

What happens? Nothing will happen, nothing ever does. the virus will go like the others and people will get on with their lives. It's sad but that's what happens.
