Isn’t Penny Lane in Liverpool (made famous in the Beatles’ song) named after a slave trader?

Only I never said that the monuments only appeared in the 20th Century, I stated the fact, that the majority were erected in 20th Century.

    Still no quotes, right oh.

Lee himself isn’t the salient point anyway, it was why and by whom i.e. who funded them, these statues were erected - decades after his death, during periods when racial tensions were high.

Pointing out you’ve offered no evidence to back your position isn’t a ‘hissy fit’ btw.

Slave trader and Tory MP. His name's used a lot because of his philanthropy.

Yes it is. Liverpool was one of the major landing points in Europe for the slave trade. Fortunately the city has chosen not to try and erase this unpleasant stain on its history from mention, and created the international slavery museum at the Albert Dock, to educate youngsters on the history of the transatlantic slave trade.

Think Bristol was the main port in the UK for slavery. Lots of talk here about tearing down/renaming a load of buildings or monuments that were built by slave traders. Guess after today a few of them will be gone. Doesn’t seem right to me to just try and erase it from the history books.

Why not a few statues, of the people that helped to stop it?

I almost bought a house on Penny Lane, we went for another one instead but it's a nice area. Got a big student halls of residence at the end of it but it's a few miles out of the city itself (between Aigburth and Mossley Hill).

Liverpool very much embraces its past and i think that works better. The average resident could tell you interesting laws that used to exist and about the slavery museum though barely any seemed to know that Castle Street used to lead to the castle; which i find odd.

Told you where to start looking if you want quotes ...

... and I don't need to produce evidence ... again go look of you want to ... makes no odds to me ... as I said, I found him a complex and contradictory character ... you continuing your hissy fit won't change that.

It has become popular to try and detract from his achievements but facts are facts, he won numeous victories when outnumbered by Union opposing forces...

.. that he has since been used in propaganda by extremists should not be allowed to undermine what he meant to the people and soldiers of the confederate states during and immediately after the conflict ... in my opinion.

Now please try and stop your hissy, it's getting tedious <cheers>

Two mentions of a none existent ‘hissy fit’, one emoji, a load of meaningless guff and no actual facts.

    You’re right, we’re done here.

Not sure why but every time Fosse posts something, I have this vision of Donald Trump in my head. I think it’s because there are certain parallels, like both having to apply a knick name when talking about others, an apparent disregard for the opposite sex, only seeing them as objects and Incredibly thin skin as recently demonstrated with his spats with a number of posters...

Yeah but you’ve never liked, Fosse.

That’s absolute ****e saying he sees women as objects. He clearly holds his wife and daughters in the highest regard. So he shagged a few birds back in the day. That’s hardly seeing women as ‘objects’
