Yup, and as Archers pointed out. It seems a little bit convenient that whenever there are protests in London, the newspapers always turn their attention to the Cenotaph or Churchill's statue if somebody sprays graffiti on it. Almost like it might inspire somebody to spray graffiti on it so that they can condemn protesters ....
Exactly mate, it’s an excuse for a lot of fake outrage whenever anyone goes near the Cenotaph - it’s in the middle of Whitehall so any demonstration marching past Downing Street is going to pass it, and there’s always a chance someone will act the fool. Nick Mason’s son (Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason) got arrested for swinging on one of the flags once, at a demo. Stupid thing to do, but just a young kid off his nut on booze and dope. You’d think from the reaction, that he’d murdered someone - and that’s Nick Mason’s son. Imagine the uproar if it had been Benjamin Zephaniah’s lad.
You should maybe do a bit more research if you want to understand why the statues of that man are seen as being racially offensive in the Southern States. And there’s plenty of accounts of his cruelty. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/06/the-myth-of-the-kindly-general-lee/529038/
In other news I ate loads of sweets really late last night and I'm farting some ungodly smells right now
Plenty of the far right social media accounts have been using that image of Nick Masons lad, from 2011, to show the ‘desecration’ of the Cenotaph by BLM protestors.
A lot of ACAB placards on show yesterday amongst the peaceful protesters. I mean, really? Are we genuinely at that point in this country? That's a dated and, frankly, bollocks slogan to use.
This is part of the problem imo. We just don't recognise Britain's history of racism and oppression. Nothing is taught in schools about our colonial past, the way we stole black people and sold them as slaves, the way we slaughtered Indians, the way Churchill diverted food away from Bengal and allowed 4 million to die of starvation, the way we set up concentration camps in the Boer war.... and on it goes. The UK likes to hold itself up as this bastion of civilised society and highlight the human rights abuses of other countries, but we have one of the worst histories for it. If we're ever going to get to grips with racism and understand why it exists, Britain needs to confront it's own racist past.
The woman holding that sign is this hate peddling racist liar. That groups social media forums are posted out on Twitter by resisting hate. They’re a cesspit of the absolute dregs of our society.
Yet all his glory comes from a speech written for him to galvanise a public who had taken the brunt of a rich man's war..... Smoking big cigar tory SCUM don't change
It's so sad to see young people are still getting indoctrinated with this racist BS. I reckon it's the beardy one on the right, (no pun intended this time) who's groomed her up.
I think we are at a point dude yeah....... Things gotta change for the better now and there's Nowt more out dated than institutional racism.
