Different cultures in different workplaces. You get that with any large organisation, and in a country the size of the USA the differences can obviously be huge.

Given the appalling reputation some forces have for systemic racism and brutality, it’s a shock to realise how high a proportion of black and Hispanic officers there are in many parts of the country. You have to recognise though, that an “Us and Them” mentality can easily develop in a job like policing. Accept the idea that your first loyalty is always to your “brother officers”, regardless of their standards of behaviour, view the public as “the enemy”, and you’ve created a mindset in which all sorts of bad behaviour is tolerated and even encouraged.

We’ve had decades in this country , going back to the Scarman report, when the police as an institution has tried to address these issues. Policy in the U.K. has also at least paid lip service to the principle of Policing By Consent. None of this has been the case in the US.

In the interest of fairness, you also have to recognise that US cops are generally policing an armed population. It puts immense pressure on the police, knowing tgat every time a suspect moves their hand to their pockets, or to the glove compartment of their car, there’s a fair chance they may be reaching for a gun.

<laugh> ****ing hell Libby, you still haven’t learned how to be polite to cops?

Shows how much they’ve improved then, because 40 years ago, I learned that lesson the hard way; give em lip, get a night in the cells, a few digs in the ribs, and if you were having a particularly bad night, an appearance in court a few days later charged with being Drunk and Disorderly.

I'm polite if they're polite to me, if they stop me for no good reason in an aggressive manner then I'll act the ****. Nothing illegal about that anyway.

Like I say, shows how much they’ve changed - for the better. Back in the day, you’d get a night in the cells for being lippy; and knowing the law wouldn’t help you one little bit.

If you did come up in front of a magistrate, no evidence needed, Drunk and Disorderly was the universal catch-all; the copper giving evidence (usually not the one who arrested you) would read from his notes how you reaked of alcohol and wanted to fight some traffic lights; bingo, £10 fine.

And that’s just walking home late at night; I’ve got lots more stories involving football matches and picket lines. Young’uns today don’t know they’re ****ing born.

I wouldn't describe it as lippy tbh as I'm always extremely calm. I just tend to treat people how they treat me and I hate people of authority using that authority to try and bully people.

Suppose the big difference now is that it's harder to lie as they all wear body cams, which I always ask/check if it's on - they hate that too btw <laugh>

He constantly promotes himself to his followers as the guy that can solve problems. What his followers don’t get is that he generally causes the division, which he then claims only he can solve. It’s playground politics, which he gets away with!

He also makes out the problem is not the problem but something else.

He has a bank of "something elses" he goes to e.g media, democrats, blacks, china, foreigners.

Funnily enough the very things his ignorant base blames all their own inadequacies and prejudices on. Go figure.

    Classic but fairly obvious misdirection.

Following this, 57 officers have quit the department /gone on strike? due to those cops being suspended for pushing the old fella.

Like I said last night, I don't believe there was any intent to harm or injure the guy, but there is accountability. The officer gave an instruction, and due to that his two minions pushed the old boy, hence cracks his head. To me that would suggest they are not used to being held accountable for their actions, so fook them, they need to learn.

What you make of this show of solidarity towards the officers by the other 57 who've thrown a strop and left?

Like I explained, fook the other 57. I wasn't specific but what I meant was, the 57 along with all officers from that specialised force, are not use to accountability, and this is part of the problem. Basically they've been trained to act like shhites, well wake up America, you ain't no China or North Korea, and the people ain't going to take this bolloxs.

I saw those innocent protestors getting baton the other day, I'd have lost it, if he had done that to me. I guess Americans back off and just take it, because they know the cops are all tooled up, and it ain't going to end well for the civi's.
