Actually a more worrying thing which suddenly struck me is why would ashley not just give him 30k a week anyways. If the takeover goes through it doesn’t affect him one bit. If the takeover is failed/failing or whatever he doesn’t want to be left with the debt of his wage! ALARM BELLS are ringing for me.
There will be a clause in play which means that the current management has to run any significant costs, such as new contracts past the Saudi's. The Saudi's won't have expected things to take this long with the PL so will likely have just said... hang fire...
I just wouldn't link Longstaff to the takeover. Mike's selling an asset (NUFC) based on a bunch of financial information. It's impossible to suddenly offer Longstaff a double value contract, as that has a material effect on the figures. If anything, the lack of counter or communication is an indicator that a takeover is in progress.
Wouldn't that create a liability on the balance sheet? I am pretty sure that at the point of agreement nothing can amended until the takeover has been signed off.
No way can prospective new owners talk to players. Imagine someone is trying to buy your factory and before anything is done he's on the shop floor speaking to all your staff. It just isn't done.
if they were selling your staff after you agreed a price it's bound to piss them off though ... unless of course it's already failed and it's business as usual... it does seem business as usual as we know it tbh... it could of course be fake news
AND even Charnley can't talk to Matty. Why? Because the club is in the midst of takeover. It's his agent making noises. An agent who doesn't understand the process. That could backfire massively.
Longstaff is a homegrown, and his balance sheet value will be £0. Once his contract is up, and he can do as he likes, it’s beyond the control of anyone at Newcastle.
