Apparently the Thai restaurant (a chain called the Giggling Squid, but still a small enough chain to have retained some standards) is now doing takeaway, so they will be tested this evening.

Enjoy. Made the chipotle chicken last night, this time with all the correct ingrediants - fabulous. Tonight I'm making a sausage and canneloni bean casserole - looks good so far...

    On another note

Can you find out where he got this from - Jnr is pestering me for one. The one I bought him from the club-shop a couple of years ago is a pretty **** copy, and is now skin tight on him!

sb, l've demolished & refurbed quite a number of restaurants over the years and what l've seen out the back away from the public has made me puke in the past.
Not saying that one is anything like what we have over experienced here but ......................( and l'd be interested to know how the standard is in the UK )

Just before Xmas, we did a 3 month stripout, gut and refurbish on a Thai restaurant here on the coast.
The grease and fat that dripped down from the ceiling grid tiles was disgusting to say the least.
The stench from the cold rooms were so bad, we had to ditch them too.

Everything from the cooking area, including the extractor fans, cooking facilities, stainless steel work benches etc were ditched. Even the light switches dripped of and stank like, well, something that should not have been where it was.

Anyway, hope the Squid is up to scratch and the food top-notch and all that.
Don't let my experiences over here deter you all from ordering take-away tonight.

    As you were..........................

The trend over here is for ‘open kitchens’ which you can see from the restaurant, which ups the game a bit. Obviously the diner doesn’t see what is going on so much at the moment.... The Squid is one of those, and I think only doing takeaway because of the lockdown, but on the experience of last night I think Thai food should be eaten straight from the wok without even the short half mile transport from restaurant to my house. It wasn’t bad by any means, just not as good as delivered to the table.

Your average takeaway I will not vouch for. At least the chippies you see everything out front.

    Well done Steels,
I'm a pizza man too and as always, l make pizzas for the family.
Tonight, l made my favourite which has a garlic tomato base with fresh home grown parsley, smoked leg ham, a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese, topped with hot Hungarian salami and garlic pepper.

A variation, and dare I say it, improvement on a roasting tin dish - couscous beefed up with fresh chilli and lime zest and coriander, king prawns fried in sesame oil with garlic, lime juice and fresh coriander added to the lot.

Paired with a Lugana white from Lake Garda. Tasty.
