I think it is you that has failed to understand that Nissan has chosen to cease any current production in mainland Europe in preference to make the UK it's sole headquarters and manufacturing plant. The Sunderland plant is already substantial, this is great news for those Sunderland folk. Perhaps they knew something in 2016?
It is only to make cars for the small UK market. There is some value in it if they can drive down the costs, but it was clear that if the costs cannot be reduced then they will pull out of there as well. All of today's news. Think you need to catch up.
As one of the most productive plants in the world they clearly chose the best to invest in. No doubt cars made in the UK will be exported around the world, even to mainland Europe. Nissan said Europe remains an important region for them. Well done Sunderland, you can see why the Bank of England chief strategist expects the UK economy to bounce back strongly.
Another car crash for the PM. He hoped to move things on, but just made it worse. It was clear from his advisors that they were not happy with him. His dishonesty is just making anything he now says questionable.
The official release statement says the Sunderland plant will be the hub for production of core models for Europe. In any case the UK market is a large and profitable one, you can see why they chose here in preference. The efficiency drive is to ensure each remaining factory runs at full capacity. Workers seen rioting in Europe does very little to encourage any outside investment.
If you wanted a toxic issue to go away, Johnson really did get that dreadfully wrong. You cannot shut people up if they want answers to important questions by not explaining, they just start to dig even more to find out what you are hiding.
Most sensible people realise what is important and what is trivia driven by political opportunism. This story will simply fade away as it deserves.
We should all raise a glass of red, or something else, tonight to celebrate the excellent news for our comrades in Sunderland.
Strange how the Tory party seems to get involved with these dodgy characters. Remember how Cameron fought tooth and nail to keep Andy Coulson doing the job that Cummings is now. but after a concerted campaign from people of all political parties had to remove him. This isn't going away despite the weak attempts to cover up, in fact Johnson has just managed to dig an even deeper hole for himself.
It has to do with 'jobs for the boys' Frenchie. Go to the 'right' school and the 'right' Oxford college and you get the jop jobs. Have you looked at how many Oxford University graduates there are in the cabinet ? Britain cannot call itself a meritocracy when the top jobs are shared within such a small pool.
I don't care that much what education they had in their younger days so much as how they use what they have learnt through life. However I have come up against all types of groups who certainly stick together, even when it makes them appear to be idiots. I have a couple of friends who are big in the apron movement, and despite saying what they do about being free spirits they are far from it. Thank goodness they see the funny side of me asking if they are busy ironing their pinnies.
The French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe gave another one of his 90 minute speeches today to inform us all that the regulations that people really have been very good at keeping to can be relaxed a little more. The numbers of new cases, people in hospitals and deaths are better than expected, so restaurants and bars in the green areas can open next week with distancing in place, and the 100 km travel restriction is lifted. Steady as it goes, but once again he received a lot of plaudits for his speech. I will say no more, except what a difference.
Giving evidence to the Liaison Committee on Wednesday, the prime minister denied there was "concerted effort" to discharge patients from hospitals into care homes. "It's just not true that there was some concerted effort to move people out of NHS beds into care homes, that's just not right," he said. ITV News has uncovered plans to discharge at least 1,800 patients from hospital into care homes during the coronavirus pandemic. The government has denied there was pressure to move people from hospital into care, after Care England recently blamed discharges for spreading the virus into nursing and residential homes. But data obtained by ITV News shows how, at the outset of the pandemic, the NHS and councils block booked beds in care homes to ensure they were ready to deal with a surge in patients coming from hospital. NHS clinical commissioning groups and councils in 17 regions of England replied to ITV News telling us that they had reserved a total of 1,800 beds in care homes, including 182 beds in Suffolk, 122 in the Wirral and 86 in Oxfordshire. Until mid-April, patients were not routinely tested for coronavirus before being discharged into a home, with care managers having previously told ITV News that they believe that’s how the virus spread among their residents. So what on earth was Johnson doing saying what he did?
It is great that Boris will allow 6 people to meet in a park from Monday. I've just got to find 5 friends by then.
