Despite all the talk about Cummings and Johnson being such a disaster area for the country, they are just two people. The really tragic results of their failure to do their duty and protect the population to the very best of their ability is shown in the figures from the FT. https://www.ft.com/content/6b4c784e-c259-4ca4-9a82-648ffde71bf0
If you had listened to Johnson yesterday you would have heard him admit that the advice received over the previous few years had been ignored by the government, and that the advice received at the beginning of the year was to cover up the lack of available provisions. He said it, so it must be true.
In a major boost to the UK to aid the financial recovery after the pandemic, Nissan has announce it will move its European headquarters and production to Sunderland. It will also close its plants in Barcelona and Indonesia. Demonstrations are taking place outside the Barcelona plant at the thousands of job losses there.
I think this is off topic... I know SH keeps veering to the continent... But this is nothing to do with cv
Durham police say that Cummings did break the rules by having a nice trip out to test his eyesight. No one expected him to be thrown into jail for the offence, but it does confirm that he was doing something that was against the rules that the rest of the population was expected to abide by. Johnson backed by all his most senior cabinet ministers, said Cummings didn’t break lockdown rules, which is why he didn’t have to go. So what now it has been shown that he did?
they say common sense is uncommon... thank goodness that the constabulary can make a clear call on this when our pm and his coterie.. cannot... and something millions of ordinary people of every political persuasion saw too....
Whataboutism 101. We've just had a referendum to rid ourselves of unelected bureaucrats running the country... yet here we are... and you, you of all people, supporting him. Lockdown means lockdown.
This has everything to do with coronavirus, the impact and how to financially recover is most important, certainly more relevant than discussing a road trip by a special adviser.
I'm pleased you agree about those in Brussels. I have no concerns about the present government employing experts, I'm waiting for the phone call.
I am afraid it is not a major boost when you delve a bit deeper. The Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi alliance have come to an agreement to slice the world up to concentrate their efforts on cost savings. Nissan is basically pulling out of Europe, only retaining what will be a much reduced scale production for the small UK market, and are going to concentrate their efforts on manufacturing in and for the Asian market. They are intending to reduce the workforce by 15%, hence the closure of Barcelona. Renault will have the European market with a reduced workforce of 10% brought about by natural wastage. Mitsubishi will have the Oceania market. There will be some sharing of frames etc, all unseen materials where it makes sense, but a big cut back for a smaller world market. Once Renault have sorted out their plans on which plants in France they will keep open, they will then look at what problems supplying Nissan with some of these unseen materials will be when the UK becomes a third country. All of this has been announced following an online press conference. So although the decisions have come about partly because of the virus, the whole car market was is decline before this happened, and talks had been going on along these lines since last autumn. Therefore it was more of a business decision, but accelerated by the virus.
As somebody with no commercial experience I doubt you understand the importance of the financial recovery after coronavirus. You have been always been happy to spend income from tax receipts created in the private sector. Any investment is welcome, this is a massive confidence boost for the UK, especially for the North East.
This thread is to discuss the cv... We can talk business and politics to the cows come home.. And kindly stop personalising again to give yourself a feeling of superiority.. We can all do that... That is not the spirit of these boards
It was not long ago you were predicting the demise of the Sunderland plant in favour of the European sites, another one to bite the dust!! The opposite has happened, they have closed the European operation in preference for the UK plant. Those at Barcelona estimate another 20,000 jobs will be lost around Barcelona that supply parts the factory. This work and jobs will end up in the North East. There is even some talk of Sunderland building Renaults. They may need this if 10% tariffs are put on European cars. EU carmakers may suffer a double whammy if cars from non EU countries into the UK become import duty free.
Surely even you are bored with discussing Cummings trip to the North. There are far more important issues.
I don't think you understood. Nissan are now saying as of today that they will not be building cars anywhere in Europe, except for a small scale operation in Sunderland. Renault have no current plans to build cars in the UK. This is all based on a realistic forecast of what the car market worldwide will look like for the next five years.
