I think looking at the collection of slowly losing steam managers out there, the likes of Ranieri, Rafa etc; Everton snatched the best of the lot.

Ancelotti is a top manager and the man I would have went for.

Just looking at the richest owners in the PL. I can’t believe Liverpool’s owners have the same wealth as Ashley. Yet we fight relegation most years and they win champions leagues and PL’s. It’s about an owners mentality not just wealth.

That's part of the problem at looking at owner's wealth. It isn't irrelevant, but it isn't the be all and end all of investment in a club. Owner's wealth is about total wealth, but with most owners the vast majority of that is tied up in other businesses and personal funds. Our new owners (hopefully) have billions at their disposal, but even best case scenario for us will likely see hundreds of millions invested rather than billions. It was the same with Ashley. He was never going to inject a large proportion of his wealth into a football club.

I very much hope we end up with Rafa. Because he’s *not* the best manager out there.

Hiring him would be a statement of intent: telling the fans that the most important attribute for a manager is someone who has a connection to the club and the fans. Not someone they can just throw money at to win things and turn a profit for PIF. Someone who will build a project and win things for the fans. As Newcastle United, not ArabcoFC.

That would be an indication that they see the history and the fans and the connection to the City as assets to the club. Not just a club in the premier league as a hollow vehicle they can use to buy international TV rights and shirt sales.

I don't care who it is or what they see the club as or think of the people if the products good.

It's only when the product is bad that all that comes into it.

rafa will do for me, but I like the football poch plays and he's the next generation, so might aswel get one of them in early .

I agree with all of the sentiments in this post. I don't know that it has to be a manager who has already worked for the club before to achieve this though, as Rafa himself was new to us when first appointed. I definitely want us to retain as much local spirit to the club as possible though, and not just become some soulless global brand. That would be too high a price for success to me. However, we definitely need/want someone who will build an affinity with the club and a relationship with the fans.

Another manager *could* achieve this for sure. But choosing Rafa would be a strong statement of intent - anyone else and we won’t know for a while.

Ardiles says Pochettino was offered a good deal by us. But he's going to take time and think about his options now that he's free to talk to clubs. If he likes our deal he will come back to us now without his Spurs clause.

Rafa has been told he will have to take a pay cut to join us due to the compensation package they will have to pay Dalian Pro.

no way he's getting a better offer... it's weird it's almost as of he wasn't sacked for doing crap at spurs....
