Think you've imagined one... groups in 97/98, 2nd groups in 02/03 (Cordoba 61 equaliser away to Inter ruined it), lost qualifier in 03/04

I remember an end of season game against you lot under Bobby when you were going for a champions league spot. 3-3 draw and one of the most entertaining matches I've watched live. Night match with a cracking atmosphere.

Specifically remember our 3rd choice keeper making a Banks-esque save from a Shearer header. Not sure what year it was but think you just missed out in the end.

Yeah, they could have been in European games a bit more but things beyond there control happened.

 

Just checked and you're right, 2003/04 season.

Good season for us tbf. Beat the Skates twice and won at both Liverpool and Spurs, the latter getting Hoddle sacked


Also had a really entertaining 3-3 draw with Everton that season with Rooney bagging a couple and us getting a brilliant late equaliser @Tobes
