More clear advice from Spain. The translation is courtesy of the Guardia Civil, who set up their own Facebook page a few years ago, aimed at helping the British ex-pats. All the help is voluntary. Perhaps we can get them over here to try to interpret the gobbledygook coming out of Westminster. COMPULSORY** use of MASKS in Spain from TOMORROW!!!; Thursday 21st May ** “The use of a mask will be mandatory in the public highway (anywhere outside), in outdoor spaces and in any closed space for public use or that is open to the public, always when it is NOT POSSIBLE to maintain an interpersonal safety distance of at least two metres”. And common sense from the Valencian Community, following a rise in the R rate, since loosening the lockdown. Regions being able to set their own pace has to be better than central government dictating the loosening of lockdown across the whole country, without regard for local issues. The Valencian Community will not enter Phase 2 on Monday The Valencian Community will remain in phase 1 for another week. The Minister for Health, Ana Barceló, announced this evening (Tuesday) that she is not going to ask central government for the region's advancement to phase 2 "as a precaution and for the protection of all, to continue all together." It is believed that the Covid-19 transmission rate, which in the last few days has risen from 0.60 to 0.85, is the reason for the delay. "It is prudent to wait...The worst thing would be to go backwards," said Barceló.
Thank you all very much for all the kind words and support. It really is very much appreciated. This has been a very strange week with some of us feeling like we are living in an unreal place and not being able to get a grip on much at all. There is so much that seems to be out of synch at the moment, and not just within our family. I talked to a few friends these past few days and they all feel the same and every one of them think it has a lot to do with the feeling that we are being lied to and misinformed at every turn so no one really knows how things really are. My closest friend thinks that in itself is causing a lot of anguish with people and we are all better off not taking any notice of what our government say, use our own common sense and base things on what feels right. She is a psychologist and is very concerned for the general mental health of the population, who are constantly hearing lies, distorted facts and statistics that actually don't mean anything. She said there is also the almost complete loss of trust in the very people who should be the ones to provide reassurance, and that is causing a feeling of deep insecurity and very real fear. Being honest, the governance of this country isn't going to get any better anytime soon so I guess we just have to make do with what we have and try to be supportive to each other, help out where we are able to and try to get through it the best we can. Hope everyone is doing ok and if you are at work I trust you will do everything you can to stay safe and healthy. If you are still at home then try to stick with it because it will hopefully be worth it and one day we will resume some kind of normality.
This one line from your post sums it up “we are being lied to and misinformed at every turn so no one really knows how things really are.” This is why I have been posting things from Spain, on here, to show the difference. Their government may not get everything 100% right, but they are communicating the situation in very clear language, with very clear guidelines, with breaches of the guidelines being punished effectively.
You’re not winning the un winnable argument? Good luck mate. I’m sure there’s millions of parents all over the country having the same argument. So long as his mum and dad both love him, nothing else really matters - he’ll turn out alright in the end.
I dunno, I think I'm making progress, though the 'he can come live with me and I'll take him' in response to her worrying about getting the bus didn't go down too well.
trouble is on here......you moan if the government don’t give out enough info and when they do you accuse them of lying. Surely that in itself is confusing..........
The monumental incompetence of the U.K. government must be visible even from Australia? In fact NASA have reported that the huge Black Hole in Westminster, where leadership should be, is clearly visible from space.
Beddy, it is not a question of "enough info", it's the validity and purpose of the info that winds people (just me?) up. Being told that 'schools can reopen, everything will be OK', but neglecting to point out that Public Schools (Eton, Harrow, etc) will keep their doors firmly closed until September, at least. So, Mr Gove, if everything is so safe, why are the rich kids being kept off? There will be 'Social Distancing' everywhere, including the overcrowded public transport network. How will this work? How will Social Distancing work in schools? Will the class sizes suddenly get halved, with twice as many teachers and classrooms? Details, details... Oh, and companies that come cap in manicured hand for a Coronavirus handout. Will their executives still get eye-wateringly large bonuses, for doing a good job (of pulling the cashmere wool over the government's eyes)?
I have to say you have made some good points L&O. I certainly do not agree that kids need to go back to school. I have three teachers who are relatives all telling me they don’t think it’s right. As for Eaton ,Harrow and the rest All their students are being taught on line it isn’t much different to being at the college. There is a lot of youngsters though that do not have those facilities. Not their fault it’s true non the less I still don’t think now is the time for them to return September maybe.........As for social distancing that’s a laugh you saw all the beaches people are complaining about schools etc yet they crowd beaches with the same children???

We're considering reopening Atlantic Canada in a bubble in the coming days...three of the four provinces haven't had a single case in several days, while the province I'm in has had single-digit new cases each day, with just 32 active cases remaining. Not completely safe yet, but it is possible to clamp down on this. There is light at the end of the tunnel, though it might be a bumpy ride there.
