Because I checked the guidelines for the NHS....and those two things should be advised, otherwise you run the risk of carrying the virus into the hospital, and into a vulnerable area of it.

I said open it up to everyone, symptoms or not.

Never thought of it as forcing anyone. I really see no reason why anyone wouldn't want to have it done, especially if it's simply information gathering for the greater good of all. It's not like it's an app which can steal your data or a vaccine which can impregnate you.

So why do you think they haven't been hitting the 100k target even though the tests and mobile stations have been there?

Who knows, it could be a number of reasons. But mass testing has been an integral part of every successful country's response to the virus and also what WHO has been advising so if capacity is there and not being fully used then why not do it.

They recently opened up the home testing but IMO they even messed that up. They went from testing key workers only to anyone over 5 with symptoms. Surprise surprise the system crashed. Why not at least open it up to those most at risk first e.g. over 50s then gradually go over 30s over 20s then over 5s.

Tbh going to testing anyone over 5 with symptoms is part of the way there to what I'm suggesting. They will prioritise the over 50's and those with other medical issues within those over 5's, but I agree they should be opening up to everyone over 50 regardless and everyone with other underlying issues regardless. Like I said, it's the best form of track and tracing if the capacity is there. It's the best way of isolating the virus and also planning an exit strategy.

You asked me why it wasn't being fully used. What you've highlighted is me saying they should open it up to everyone.

The only explanation is that the number of people tested is being quoted as those who’ve not had a previous test. Any positive test has to have a 2nd to confirm in case of false positives and they’ll be testing many COIVD hospital patients regularly as they recover, to see when they’re clear.

BTW notice the small print... "historical revisions" i.e. they ****ing lied about how many tests they did in the past

Sorry mate, i just have a thing about this test test test thing and know i am probably on my own with it.

If we had a cure or vaccination i would be all for it, as it is all we get told is "isolate" well guess what, we have all been doing that for nearly 2 months (or should have been)
The track and trace? how do you know who or how many have picked a tin of beans up before you when shopping (simplistic scenario).

Finding pockets? Ramsbottom has a higher case rate than Burnley, the people of Ramsbottom have obviously not been following guidelines :bandit:

You get where i am coming from now maybe, i am probably totally wrong but that's just my view. If you can do something to cure/avoid the virus then great, if it's just for statistics then stop wasting time and resources.

There's a massive difference between vague isolation because of a lockdown and legit quarantine because you know for a fact you have the virus and will be contagious for a certain number of days.

If it's just for statistics alone then it's obviously a waste of time. No, it has to serve a purpose of both containing the virus and helping to reduce the R number and get us out of the lockdown. For example if you test 10 times more people, you will catch many with mild symptoms, or none. That's what happened in Germany. It will pick up those who are asymptomatic, and it may also help to stop the undetected transfer from young to old - the most vulnerable. That's just a few examples but I know there are more if I can be bothered to read up on it again <laugh>
