Good Morning. It's Wednesday 20th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Six out of 748 players/members in the Premier League test positive for coronavirus According to the Premier League, six of 748 players / staff members who took part in COVID-19 testing have tested positive! Those who have tested positive must now self-isolate for seven days and cannot attend their club training ground! Is seven days sufficient? As reported on Monday the entire Dynamo Dresden squad have been ordered into a 14-day quarantine following two positive tests. Although the Bundesliga (and Bundesliga 2) have recommenced their season, nobody really knows how easily the virus is spread! What happens if and when players test positive just after a game? It's bound to happen! A two week team quarantine could mean missing out on four games! please log in to view this image Starlet to sign three and a half year deal at Elland Road Leeds have agreed a fee of £300,000 and have landed striking sensation Charlie Allen from Northern Irish outfit Linfield. The 16yo will pen a three and a half year deal at Elland Road once the club return to full working operations. Leeds beat a host of Premier League sides to Allen's signature who looks set to go straight into Carlos Corborans U23 squad next season. Is anyone a little disappointed that the current crop of highly rated youngsters are not breaking through to the first team? Obviously we have seen the odd cameo appearance from Stevens, Gotts and Struik, but with such a wealth of talent being ignored, we could lose the likes of Hasannah and Bogusz who have both been vocal about the lack of opportunities they have been given! Whilst Hassanah refuses to sign a new contract, Polish sensation Bogusz was quoted as saying the following just two weeks ago:- “I’m angry that I don’t get a chance," "But when I look at development and how it is working here, I can tell you honestly – I feel I’ve developed incredibly for example in terms of endurance." “I could jump in at any time, play 90 minutes, take on as much effort as the first team player and there would be no problem. He went on to say that Leeds blocked the 18yo from going out on loan this season. Are the starlets suffering under Bielsa? please log in to view this image
Morning Elland. Regarding our young players, I think this generation want everything now. They need to look at the bigger picture. If they are good enough they'll be given a chance. Although it'll be hard to replace any of the currant side because they have done so well up to now. Starting on the bench is the best the youngsters can expect at the moment. Well that just my opinion.
Good morning, If we're not going to play football until zero staff and players test positive then we might never play football again since we don't know if we'll ever successfully make a vaccine so realistically it's more about managing risk. You could argue that because of the Premier League we've picked up six cases that otherwise wouldn't have been identified and now those players and staff can be isolated. We have some promising youngsters but I'm worried if we get promoted we'll never see them. I enjoyed the league one days when you could just throw a kid on away at Hartlepool. It's more difficult away at City or Liverpool!
Morning Shaks, the only reason O'Leary was successful was because of the youngsters, and the ONLY reason why he gave them a chance was due to horrendous injuries to the first team. At the age of 18 or 19 they need first team experience, if nor at ER, then in a lower division on loan
Well put Tommo, almost wants me to have a Leeds B team in a lower division. At least then home grown talent won't go unseen.
He benefited from Wilkos youth initiative and thinking for the future, O'Leary also had the luxury of millions to spend and Ridsdale's stupidity of not separating business from pleasure.
Morning all. Back at work and busy with Covid printing. First game of golf in weeks later on today so some semblance of normality returning at last
Hope you enjoyed your rounds, my local course opened today so I hope to get out there soon. Hopefully get my millwall mate along, hes got a lovely outside bar next to the pool and jacquzzi at his gaff for the 19th.
Afternoon all, glad you’ve managed to reopen Eire.... I’m watching the news today on struggling companies, the likes of Rolls Royce laying people off, we receive an email from an employee asking for a pay rise and can they do less hours
Lots of employees here not happy with wages anymore after they were getting 350 euros a week at home. They might have a rethink when it stops Altogether
I think the clue is "I think I've developed incredibly........." I think I deserve a 100% pay rise, unfortunately my boss doesn't always see it the same way
So, what are the thoughts. Is six positive cases out of all the tests mean its right to restart the premier league?
It’s not likely to ever be better than that so if they have any plans to play in September they may as well start now. Won’t be any improvement in situation
Don't disagree. Without wanting to sound controversial but it could be suggested that the same applies to getting back to normal life.
Very true. Some areas will be more difficult than others. Whereas I see football at some point I just can’t see 40k fans crammed together in a stadium without a vaccine. Golf for example was an easy fix but staging a Ryder cup wouldn’t be
Difficult subject but I was talking proportion. If under 1% of players tested positive seems reasonable to restart football then was under (and I don't want to sound callous) 1% deaths in the population worth locking down the entire country? I don't know quite the best way to explain it but what I'm (badly) trying to ask is either both are proportionate to the risk or neither?
Small sample size & possibly the fittest people in the country. Add their youth to that, & you have a ridiculously slanted result. Why not apply the same test to care homes. They'd be turning cartwheels if it was only a 10% death rate, far less 1%. More like the majority will die.
