Jose has banged on about him for ages and had mentioned that is the sort of role that is needed at Tottenham
I still don't get why at the end of contract means that club has to release the registration. Surely the club owns the registration and any new club would have to purchase that?
A Premier League spokesperson said: “As with any change of control at a Premier League club, we have checked the sources and sufficiency of funding in place to acquire the shares, and been provided with a detailed business plan showing the new owners can sustain the club going forward. We have also conducted the Owners’ and Directors’ Test which includes detailed background checks on any individual proposing to acquire more than 30% of shares in a club, or to be a director on the club’s board. This is a very rigorous process and we have worked with Katharina Liebherr and her advisers to ensure all Premier League rules have been adhered to.”
Without getting into the details of the paperwork (about which I am ignorant), the club only acquires any rights over the player for the period the player agrees to play for that club. When that expires, the club doesn't have to pay the player and the player doesn't need to club's permission to sign for someone else.
I understand that bit - but the club owns the registration document and that is what they purchase from a club so regardless of player contract surely it could have been done so that the new club has to purchase that?
Odd decision especially with Bundesliga back and La Liga training getting back underway and hopefully the EPL. Be interesting to see how things pan out with regards to legal challenges from Hearts in particular.
