As i say I'm not actually convinced it will be a problem. The evidence so far is pretty thin on the ground and it will be interesting to see what happens in other countries going back. There are some "known unknowns" though, it is pretty widely suspected that many young children get the virus and pass it on but are not particularly affected by it (which is great news in the main) but does throw in the possibility that they are spreading it much more than is currently known of as you can't trace that well (the children wouldn't get tested so you wouldn't even know they had it, contact tracing just not possible). We wont know until after the fact and realistically cannot wait around in limbo on the off-chance that's true; the economy can't just be left to flounder and my personal view is that it's a risk worth taking - but i understand why others aren't so keen.

Some of the comparisons made so far aren't that helpful though as politicians cherry-pick "facts" and publicise them (nothing new there of course), if you watch the BBC video on Denmark schools you'll quickly pick up why they aren't easily comparable to UK schools (one of the first things the teacher says is that they halved their class sizes from 20 to 10; my boys are in classes of 36 and 34 and average class size in this country is just much bigger, especially at primary schools). We would need to cut class sizes to lower than the 15 they are currently suggesting in my eyes (if you had 15 pupils in my classroom they'd be at most 1.5 metres apart, probably much less) and then you end up having not many classes in on a given day.

The unions are over-the-top by saying things like "impossible" but i wouldn't be suprised if different schools end up offering different provision as if you haven't got enough spare rooms and spaces or your student-teacher ratios were already stretched then you simply will not be able to offer as many pupils places as other schools. Especially if you have a few members of staff who are pregnant or have long term health issues, etc. I think there's going to be a lot of situations where one person can send their 5 year old and their next door neighbour cannot (if they go to different schools).

    Double post for the win.

I reckon most schools will make provision for pupils to go back, many parents wont send their children back at first and the numbers will be manageable. There'll be a second spike but it wont be clear what has caused it (schools are, more likely, the parents all going back to work) and the government will hold off until the Summer so we don't have to close schools again.

That said, most pupils probably will not get back into school this academic year. It's dominating some headlines at the moment but does feel like a storm in a teacup and the fact the BBC seem to put a HYS at the end of each of their school news reports under a picture of a "schools closed" sign isn't helping as Jon Bloggs from Burnley explains how all teachers are Commie freeloaders who should have their pay docked! They don't do that with the government stories...

At least I'm not confused, the message clearly was, if the train is packed, don't let it stop you getting on it, unless station employee's @Archers Road prevents you from doing so. Knowing Archers, he'll probably push me on it :cheesy:

yeah the actual logistics of social distancing in a school will be a major hurdle and will differ from school to school .

Thing is of course is that for the culture secretary
    a) His place of business is closed therefore doesn't need public transport
    b) Anyway he would just get in his work provided car and tell the work provided driver where to take him even if it was open.

Loads of social distancing measures at the stations, but none on the actual trains, it’s genius.

    c) He would roll out of his London second home into work.

[I was going to add a bit about Jeremy White falsely claiming a few thousand pounds worth of expenses on furniture for the aforementioned second home (which is true) but in fairness to the guy his overall expenses were mild compared to most of his colleagues and in the bracket of "could have been a genuine mistake", especially as he volunteered them. Says a lot of politicians that I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as he ONLY claimed £4000-ish more than he should though]

a lot of the legal ones pissed me off more like the flipping of which home was your main residence so you could get the taxpayer to upgrade both houses for you or the ones who kept buying run down London properties getting expenses to do them up then flog them for big profits and rinse & repeat .

They were going to mention it but there wasn’t time after taking 20 minutes to tell us about the A14 being upgraded quicker than expected. It’s on page 68 of the booklet being sent to your home some time in the next eight months. Stay alert.

Have to say i can no longer listen to the daily briefings as listening to some fat twat trot out the same spiel everyday while also showing us the same powerpoint presentation for the 27th day running was for some reason getting on my wick .

I'm guessing my consultant does not know of these guidlines/rules either, and he's restarting. I only spoke to him indepth on the 12th last week, not a word mentioned, about isolating for 14 days or having a test. Then further concern when I read article headlines like this... https://www.hsj.co.uk/patient-safet...tals-causing-national-concern/7027663.article
