    Smell the money in this:

Michael Gove today admitted that there was no way of being certain teachers and children will not catch coronavirus if they return to the classroom – just moments after claiming he could “guarantee” schools are safe.

The cabinet minister urged councils, teaching unions and doctors to ‘think again’ about opposition to reopening primary school classrooms in England from 1 June, as proposed by the government, telling them that if they really care about children they should “look to your responsibilities”.

Asked on BBC1’s Andrew Marr Show whether he could “guarantee” that teachers going back to school will be safe, Mr Gove said firmly: “Yes.”

And smell the conspiracy theory in this:
Whilst state schools are being told to re-open on 1st June, private schools, such as Eton and Harrow, are staying shut until September. We can only speculate as to why...

On the day that Keir Starmer appears to be more competent than Johnson in a poll, The Mail goes on the attack. Man Of The People. Sir Keir Starmer owns seven acres of land that could be worth up to £10 million. A field behind his mother's house that she uses as a Donkey Sanctuary. That could misfire with so many people liking donkeys.

Harry Cole the journalist who wrote the £10million landowner story on Keir Starmer,is the ex long term boyfriend of Carrie Symonds. I suppose that is as big a smear as the story attempted to be in the first place.

It is quite usual for senior Labour figures to have second homes, send their children to private schools, and fully use the capitalist system to their advantage. The rules they advocate for the general public is often quite different, ask Diane Abbott.

Corbyn's brother showed yesterday that poor old Jeremy is not the only member of the family that is short of a few brain cells.

...ah here we go.... mention the gutter press..... there is no need to get in the gutter oneself.....

I think you miss the point which was to illustrate smearing and scapegoating that goes in the tabloid media

I'm sure Starmer will fully maximise the value of his land when his days in politics are over. You only have to look at the example of the Blairs to realise Labour leaders often have different rules to those they preach to.

Why should Labour figures not be allowed to use the system to their advantage - they are not an anti Capitalist party ? For an avowed communist it would be hypocritical but not for Labour. Also - does this really have anything to do with the subject of the thread ?

I tend to agree..... many people choose not to keep their kids in state schools as they can be so unfit for purpose..... that is human nature.....

In France the latest number that we had yesterday for new cases of the infection were 372. Today the UK have just put out their number as 3,142 . There are lots of unanswered questions here about how and is it safe for children to start returning to school. When the UK is still way behind in getting control due to the much later start, it seems far too early.

Alok Sharma: “I think there’s a trade-off between the health of the nation and the health of the economy”

What a contrast with the attitude of the NZ prime minister Jacinda Arden, who said "a dead or a dying population is bad for the economy".

How on earth can a Government Minister talk in such terms? Who from here should be traded in return for some more tax revenue?

It is hard to take Labour politicians seriously when they preach that private schools are unfair and should be banned. Unfortunately this mantra does not apply to them as they claim they are merely putting the interests of their children first by choosing paid schooling.

It is perfectly possible to be against a system but to use it for as long as it exists. I do not like living under capitalism but I do it to the best of my ability. The fact is that Britain has just elected its 20th Etonian PM - all Prime Ministers apart from one went to private schools and the majority of MPs in the Commons are graduates of Oxbridge - that is the way politics works in the UK (it sucks) and Labour, if they are to change things, are straightjacketed into doing the same. If my son goes to a top private school then he has more chance of getting a top job in politics, and consequently being able to change things in course of time.

I suppose that you would make a distinction between a school teacher who is threatened with being thrown out of the job for life, and the then Minister for Education admitting that he had been taking cocaine. Maybe the Minister should have been thrown out of politics for ever?
