A thought struck me a while ago - I haven't noticed any posts from andy for a few days. Has anyone heard from him?
Morning all. Chucking it down with rain again. Daughter was talking about going to see them today and sitting in the garden. That is on hold like the gardening. Last year I was asking for rain in May, this year I am asking for it to dry up. Never satisfied! Have a good day whatever you can do.
Morning all ! Germany is currently going through a punctual 'Eisheiligen' (translates rather loosely as Ice Saints) namely a sudden drop in temperatures which often happens here in mid May - last night zero degrees, and the night before 2 degrees under zero. Which meant that my potato plants had to spend 2 nights under upturned flower pots, which they are gratefull to now have removed.
Typical Scottish weather up here again - blue skies and sunshine, but b****y cold. So cold that my car battery went flat overnight. A simple job to either jumpstart it or take it out and charge it up, I thought. But, no - when I looked under the bonnet I simply didn't recognise what was claimed to be the battery as a battery. Only one terminal to attach the jump leads to and no obvious way to remove the damned thing. Gone are the days when I did all my own servicing and scoured wreckers yards for spare parts. After seeing video clips of people returning to work in London via public transport this morning, I'm just about ready to start saying a quiet prayer for them - buses packed, no masks being worn and no social distancing. A disaster in the making.
I covered all our seedlings etc last night.. Amazing how creative one can be with old pots, garden sieves, boxes etc.. Although a frost forecast here.. Cloud cover kept us above zero.. Predicted tonight too..
I just took the dog out for her afternoon constitutional - we got no more than twenty yards from the front door when it started snowing again. If there was a gold medal for synchronised turning around and going back home, we would have won it.
Buenas tardes a todos. Hope those in the UK know how to follow those slightly confusing orders from the top clown. Things are still in recommended lock down here. So, we are holding it down as best we can. There is a distinct lack of beer here but spirits are still available. All other basic servies seem to be running. Violence has peaked in some states too. Have a good week all.
Morning all.. And I have heard from Dave who is home and resting at the moment. Just about to go out for my first super market trip in 5 weeks.. Mask and gloves all ready.. Looking forward to a quick spin round food heaven... Ahhh....Croissants...
Morning all. Overcast but dry here this morning. Glad to see that Dave is home again. Life has returned to the village. The farmer is running around in his white van, off to see how his livestock are in some of his more remote fields. The home help is across the road with our 90 something lady, and there is a workman doing something inside the home of the Parisians. The meals on wheels van has just gone past on the way to the next hamlet, so just the postie to come around midday and we will have probably seen as much traffic as we are likely to see for the day. Life is hectic in these parts. Have a good day whatever you can do.
Morning all - it's pouring with rain up here today - which is an improvement on the snow and hail we had earlier in the week I suppose. There were reports yesterday of a fast food establishment, in a town not too far from here, re-opening for business - albeit take away only. As it's situated on the main road through town, it probably wasn't the wisest move as so many rushed there that traffic was gridlocked both to the east and to the west for hours. This morning I'm mulling over whether or not I should alert some people I know who were in the rush about a similar case in Melbourne. A McDonalds re-opened there recently after lockdown rules were eased - overnight last night, the number of staff testing positive to the virus rose to eight, and now there are worries of a second wave starting. I don't wish to be alarmist, but...
My internet went down late morning, and has only just returned. It seems to have been a major problem as the whole area lost it. When there are things you want to find out about has a shop opened or not, you just get online these days rather than do a 50 km drive to find out that they are not. One just assume that like water coming out of the tap it will always be there to use.
Good morning all from a cool and dry Weston-super-Mare! Have a good day Slowly getting back into the swing of things
Morning all, and great to have you back Dave. Lovely bright sunny morning with a bit of breeze, but quite mild. We will need to do a bit of shopping, so out with the mask again. Got Mme's car running yesterday afternoon as the battery was totally flat after 10 weeks of going nowhere. She had a run around some of the countryside that is on the road to nowhere and we never see as a result. It was good for her to feel that life was returning to something a bit like normal, even if the roads were totally deserted. I hope to get some bits for the gardening as we are promised a few days without any rain, and I have things up at the house that really need to go in. Have a good day whatever you might be doing.
Afternoon all.. Just had a lovely walk in the country north of Otley.. Not one other walker, lovely spring day. Breeze, sun and a bit of a chill.. Saw curlews sky larks and long tailed tits.. And my plant identification app worked half the time... Drove home past busy garden centers and parks
