The Normans were Vikings (Norse Men) who settled in Northern France. The Franks were a Germanic tribe who settled in Burgundy and eventually came to dominate much of Central Europe.

 

I'm Saxon

If you did a DNA test you’d probably find you have ancestry from all over the world, most people do. But if you can trace your family back a few generations to NE England you are probably more Danish than Saxon.

 

Didn't the Vikings invade and settle in Northumbria? So Newcastle and Sunderland should be playing in the Danish or Norwegian leagues?

 

They still wouldn’t win anything, but yeah.

 

I did one im as common as muck and as Saxon as you get these days. The blood test I did is why I say I'm Saxon basically

 

Fair enough then. I watched a documentary once where a load of people from different parts of the UK had DNA tests. The one that stuck in my mind was this couple who where part of a Saxon re-enactment society in Sussex, and went to Hastings every year to refight the Norman conquest.

They were both certain they were 100% Saxon, but it turned out his DNA was about 60% from Iran.

 

This is where his logic completely fails. Saying "Im not British, I'm proud Welsh" is just odd, even odder though is large chunks of Welsh nationalism stem from Roman era politics.

Kinda enforces the fact absolutely **** all has happened in the country.

 

Nationalism of all kinds a is pretty ******ed world view imo. Human beings are tribal in nature, I get that; but most of us have several overlapping identities, and to give too much weight to one tribal loyalty or another is what starts wars.

Actually that’s not true; rich and powerful people start wars to further their own interests, but they get the plebs to fight for them by appealing to ancient tribal loyalties.

 

Scottish and Welsh nationalism is nothing more than small man syndrome. They simply get annoyed that England is the big fella and we aren't as well known.

There's tons of fabricated history or half truths or simply massive misconceptions which confuse and enrage simple valley folk into a rage. The biggest one I see is the false correlation between Scotland and Wales and the perceived "common struggle" both countries face. The link betweem the two is thread bare and the history just isn't there to specifically support the Welsh claims.

Its truly dumb.
