So who was at City v England on Springhead Lane, Anlaby, in the build up to the 1966 World Cup?!!

I saw that. It's Billy Wilkinson challenging for the header. I commented under the tweet that he was my early City favourite player because he was the first player I saw score a goal for City with his diving header against Everton in the 3rd Round FA Cup match in January 1964. In the replay, Jock McSeveney's goal from 35 yards out was shown on BBC news.

I just read it back and it was confusing!

I’m going to stick with thinking you saw the game, and came on for the last ten minutes!

that would be a dream come true
but still my best performance was a match against ex-Tigers (I think Waggy played and scored a hat-trick and missed a penalty)
somebody shot at goal and the keeper dived and pushed high into the air
I got under the ball and it seemed like it was taking ages to come down and I was expecting to get clattered but I managed to jump as high as I could and headed it towards goal. There was a defender on the line and he tried to head it but could only direct it into the roof of the net.

Chosen because we were the top scorers in all four divisions. Think we won 2-1 too.

Anybody see it? Doesn't look like there's many there!

Clearly us beating them was the only reason we won the World Cup. It's the only thing that makes sense.

I was there too, I only lived on Anlaby Common the other end of Springhead Lane, so was a 15 minute walk.

For his size, Billy Wilkinson couldn't half yet some height to head a ball!

Looks like it's Norman Hunter (#6) jumping for the ball with Wilkinson. Using his arms in the process ! Houghton & Simpkin visible in the snap.

The money they spent on one of the three £40,000 signings in 1964-65 would be worth £670,000 today
But when you compare it to what was spent then to what was spent now I would think it was like each signing was for tens of millions now. That was incredible for a third division club
