What is clear the only nations that have been considered to have done well with this pandemic are those places that experienced the previous recent epidemics that did not take hold in the West. Lessons will be learnt, When it comes to the crunch nations states simply look after their own interests, anything else is a fallacy.
Aren't you ignoring all those Western nations which have done well on this and driven the numbers of infections down ? Like eg. Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Iceland, Denmark, Israel - ie. all those places which don't fit your narrative.

At a time of national crisis, it is very sad to see a Prime Minister being invited to return to the Commons to correct what he has told the nation. To be caught out denying that a government document says what it does is just plain stupid when the document can be produced in seconds. Careless mistake or outright lie. He should go back and correct what he has told us. At the time when people need to have trust in their leaders, if they get it wrong they should apologize, not simply hope it will go away.

Simon Walsh, the deputy chief officer of the HCSA, which represents NHS procurement officials, he recently described her business in the Daily Telegraph as "genuine heroes in the PPE story".
These are the barest minimum Yorkie. When you get on a train or bus in Germany or Austria they control them to make sure everyone is wearing a mask. As for air travel - there is no justification for domestic flights, and anyone arriving at a German airport from abroad must go into quarantine. This set of rules is too little and too late. The skies have been so quiet recently because of the lack of planes, and I'm sure the atmosphere is breathing a sigh of relief.

Remember how Johnson spent the election campaign in December telling businesses there would be no customs checks between England and N. Ireland. If they were asked to fill in any paperwork they could call him up and he would tell them to throw it in the bin. Members of the Stormont assembly were told that they had a briefing from the executive office officials on Monday on the latest plans to implement the protocol and they included customs checks at the ports and airports. Johnson has form, so why should we believe anything that he says about looking after the elderly in care homes?
And just think Yorkie - all those thousands of people working from home and not sat in traffic jams. Calls to relocate production back to Europe from China - thus sparing us the pollution of transporting goods half way round the globe. Less tourism - and maybe more responsible tourism in the future. China has now banned the trade in wild animals, meaning that they might leave the bats in peace in future, plus several other species. Countries who, as a result of Corona, now find their Co2 emission targets possible for the year. If help packages can be channeled to environmental performance after this then there is a chance we might come out stronger as a result.
Agreed, there could be many positives after this dreadful pandemic. I would also extend the possibility of many improvements due to Brexit. If there is a no-deal scenario many of the present supply chains may be replaced with more localised production. More holidays in the UK, extra investment in the UK. There will also be reduced or nil tariffs, on goods emanating from non EU countries. The UK will be able to implement much higher standards on the use of recycled packaging material, so many benefits.........
Yes potentailly great for the environment.. Nature seems to be in the ascendancy these days which is wonderful to be a part of....
