Good Morning. It's Wednesday 13th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    EFL meeting will define season

The EFL will hold crucial talks today with all 72 clubs via a video conference call which will define the 2019/20 season, and may have huge repercussions for the future.

Clubs outside the top flight have been hit hard by the economic impact of the coronavirus. The bottom team in the Premiership (Norwich) earn 97m more then Leeds, top of the Championship - where is the fairness in that? The financial predicament of clubs in the lower leagues are even worse than the Championship. Most League one and two clubs live hand to mouth and rely heavily on supporters coming through the turnstiles to balance the books. The last two months have seen many clubs stare bankruptcy in the face as they wait for today's meeting to put them out of their misery.

It is expected time will be called on Leagues One and Two with the remainder of the matches mathematically concluded via a points per game tally. It's a shame this decision was not made sooner.

The EFL will introduce new measures today in a bid to try and persuade Championship clubs to fulfil their remaining 9 games.

Out of contract players will certainly be high on the agenda as their contracts expire at the end of June. This would leave teams desperately short of players as in recent years clubs outside the Premier League have relied on talent being passed down, improving the quality of the lower league team, but providing valuable experience for the stars of the future. It has been revealed today that both Ben White and Jack Harrison are set to sign short term extensions.

The EFL have supported clubs that want to play their remaining games at their home ground but this would require approval from the government, who have made it clear that the risk of large social gatherings must be avoided.

Former player Noel Whelan believes that playing matches at neutral venues will make no difference!

“That is the way that it is but fans have cars, they can travel to neutral venues.

“Leeds fans will celebrate, just like Liverpool fans will celebrate if they win the title. Whether it be in the street, in the park, outside the stadium – it makes no difference.

“You cannot control people’s decisions and what they do. All you can control is the football side of it.

“If people gather outside the ground the police would have to do the job that they would normally do in and around the community which is disperse them and get them away.

“You will not get thousands and thousands there. It will be a very small minority.”

The play off's are likely to be one leg at a neutral ground, with the final being played at Wembley.

To help fitness levels which may have dropped over the last eight weeks, the International Football Association Board have temporarily increased the number of substitutes allowed in a game to five.

There will be specific points in a match where they can be used to save time.

Approval is currently being sought from the Government regarding a return to training. Once this has been obtained, and all being well, a start date can be set.

Morning Elland and all. Just been listening to a scientist guy who stated New York have conducted tests on 1500 residents who have had cv. Apparently a huge number had antibodies that will protect from further infection. Also an estimate that 20% of New Yorkers may have had it and are now immune. Just thought Id share that little nugget of good news. It wasn't an American scientist by the way, I wouldn't have bothered mentioning it if it was I think

    Morning,

This is silly. In my opinion there is no way given the level of infection and death in the UK that the season should be played out, at any level. It simply beggars belief that with so much anxiety about what is happening somebody doesn't have the common sense to say "sorry, enough is enough, this is how the season has ended and this is the result and these are the consequences. If we are able, the next season will start on xx/yyy/20zz".

Professional sportsmen and women of any sort will always say they want to play the games and get the result on the pitch but sometimes it's just not sensible. Yes, they are all young and well trained and so probably not susceptible to the virus but they will all have parents, grandparents, family, extended family and friends and so why should they want to risk those people?

Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer says using points per game to decide the final Championship table if the season is cut short would be "scandalous".

Unless they are breaking the law, they aren't supposed to see extended family and friends, many people are already doing lots of high risk jobs and with them all being tested twice a week, it should be less risk than going the shops.

It's not, but with the stress of lockdown, could actually save lives.

With the virus mutations, will we ever get a proper vaccine, not managed to stop flu, have we. Will the future be that them hit the hardest now, will benefit in the long run while them who got it under control quickly keep having breakouts for many years to come. Sweden chose to take a bigger hit now, will they benefit in the long run while the rest of the world suffer, they seem to have stopped it getting worse without a lockdown, we will probably spend the rest of our lives paying for our wrecked economies, hope we were the ones who make the right choices as the world will never be the same again.

I think scientists will look closely at the Scandinavian countries for future pandemics. It's one of the best examples of similar countries taking completely different approaches. Sweden's deaths per million is similar to central European countries (328). When you compare it to their neighbours that had a stricter lockdown though it really doesn't look good. Norway (42). Finland (50). Denmark (91).

Perhaps Sweden don't need to worry about a 2nd wave though. Perhaps they'll be the only nation playing football this time next year. Who knows!

Been saying for ages there's no guarantee of finding a vaccine.
Also noticed that tap water is starting to taste different here - full of chemicals.
Got me wondering if they think/know this virus is in the water systems.

Then I heard Boris mention "Oxford water" in his PMQ's
I'm sure there is lots of stuff we are NOT being told!!!

I'm keeping an eye on Sweden, they haven't wrecked their economy, I wonder how many will die in poverty in future years, myself I would just print the money, it would devalue everyone's savings, pension pots, by probably 10%,but them who have more will pay more, otherwise I fear the poor will pay the costs like the bank collapse.

Might be wrong, but I think he was probably meaning sewage water, which does show the virus, so they could get some idea of people infected locally and take steps.

Brilliant idea. Couple of hundred thousands piss all flowing into one sewage treatment plant. That would give a great indication of level of infections in an area. Don’t think Trump could even come up with that ****e literally <laugh>
