And this is the problem. 25% of all cases here in Aus can be traced to a cruise ship's passengers being allowed to disembark without any checks even though cruiseline had reported a number of passengers with flu like symptoms

Just as an aside, when was the last time anyone here paid for any services or goods with cash ?

I've got a solitary £10 note in my wallet that been stuck there for months, I'm pretty sure come the day I'll use it the Queen's eyes will water and blink.

Contact- less payments must have prevented many infections.

What’s people’s thoughts on flights this year?

We’re due to go to Portugal August 17th from Edinburgh. Now, I’m 99% certain this’ll be cancelled, but it’s a bit of a gamble.

We can cancel up until June 6th and we’d get a refund, but lose £240 (4x£60 deposits). If we held out and waited until after June 6th and ended up cancelling, we'd again get a refund but we’d then lose 30% of our total (roughly £650). However, if Jet2 cancel the holiday, we get a 100% refund.

Like I say, I’m 99% certain there’ll be no flights anywhere this summer. Certainly not for a weeks all inclusive, but it’s at what point we blink with regards to cancelling or leaving it

I booked a holiday to Turkey in August with jet2 and decided to cancel. We lost our deposit of £240. They advised me that if they had to cancel I would only receive a voucher of the cost of the holiday.. best £240 lost so I thought, not a chance we were flying in 2020. After reading your post I'm somewhat miffed with the fookers:emoticon-0103-cool:

I haven’t spoken to anyone at Jet2 - one of my mates’ wife is the manager of the travel agents we booked at.

We’re already booked up to go to Paphos next year for a wedding, so if (when) this years is cancelled we’ll be transferring the balance anyway. It’s just when to cancel this years that’s the risk

I personally think there’s a strong chance those flights will operate.

Portugal are doing ok, there footy is about to kick off and a fair bit of the country is open already.

If a travel company cancels on you they must refund your money in full. That’s black and white.

Our advice was from the travel agent. To be fair to them, they were excellent..but as a family, we decided to cancel early so Jet 2s policy may have changed subsequently. Good luck with your decision mate.

My thinking is after managing the whole thing excellently, are Portugal going to open their borders up to thousands of potentially infected Brits?

We’ve got until June 6th before any decision is made, the goalposts could be significantly shifted by then

I worked in the travel industry for a lot of years mate, and if the flights don’t go ahead, you are covered, it’s as simple as that.

Your decision is, if they do go ahead, would you want to go?

For me, if I was allowed to fly to Portugal I probably would, I’d imagine that there’ll be requirements brought in to be tested before you fly, that’s how I see aviation getting back on its feet.

If we are to believe Boris (which I ****ing don’t) we have a huge capacity for testing.

If we do, he needs to look at this, as losing airlines and associated businesses will have a catastrophic effect and cause a Europe wide crash that would be very, very long and drawn out to put right.

If I go back to England in the next few months, it'll be by car. We'll holiday in France so we don't have to fly.

It's impossible to social distance in airports or on planes where people become idiotic at the best of times.

If the UK doesn't get its act together locals won't want plane loads of Brits arriving ...

... looking in from the outside, it all looks shambolic.

If you do go by the tunnel I use it a lot and it is far better and quicker than the ferry and you will not mix with anyone

I'm still at work anyway will only affect me when my tax goes up to pay for the people who got Furloughed.

For them to extend it for another 4 month surely there must be something they keeping back and not telling us.

The furlough scheme is being covered by the Bank of England I understand.

    The other bits though....

I haven't stopped working either, several Companies that supply us have and continue to use the scheme, I'd be worried if I was furloughed as at least one of the Companies that supply us put 70% of their Sales and Technical teams on furlough and they have traded just as well without them.

That's a very good point some companies will realise they don't need as much staff as they currently have.

A lot of companies won’t go back to office working, and that will actually cost jobs as well, cleaners etc.

I know our productivity with home workers is up about 15%, companies are going to wanna keep that.

I'm surprised the cleaners are still needed in my place there is only 3 of us in the building (old call centre)

Still have the two cleaners come in every day though only thing that can think that would get dirty is the toilets.
