Those that were forced to close are things like pubs, restaurants and garden centres. Those that chose to close cover all kinds of businesses such as various builders merchants, service providers, mechanics/engineers etc... who presumably decided that either it was too difficult to socially distance for their staff or more likely that it was more cost effective to temporarily suspend all business than to operate at a far lower level of demand.

oh, everyday we get spambots trying to come in, like genuine ones, that could take a club board down in minutes if given a chance. So I have to hit them, before they hit us. Sometimes you get collateral damage but not a lot i can do about that. Spambots are easy to spot, but sometimes, when ppl create socks they follow similar traits.

    It's just fact,
First of all staff wear masks in public view and are wary of social distancing, pretty soon they are taking the mask off on their break, sharing ***s or chatting in the staff room.

Eventually all pretence of following precautions disappear. Our local autofit started all keen, now when I walk past they'll be three of them without masks all under the bonnet of the same car.

My partner's work started the same, large school for autistic children. They failed to prevent the virus from getting in, most staff have had it and now it's common for 9/10 residents and staff to all be in the same lounge without masks or gloves. The only people taking PPE seriously are agency staff.

Our local pub sells take outs. The garden centre does a collection service where you order online before going to collect.

Are they breaking the law if pubs and garden centres must be closed?

Ah if you try and do that, the system will auto lock you out, without me even knowing. Had a few mods asking for me to reactivate some of the member accounts.

They’re closed in that no-one can go in. The pub providing takeaway is the same as restaurants that have decided to provide takeaway, it was exempt from the rules as it’s providing food so some businesses decided to adapt to the rules to try and keep revenue coming in. Other businesses such as McDonalds decided not to.

What exactly are you struggling to understand?

When I say lock you out, I mean perm lock you out, so you can't reset it without my help <laugh>

I had to check that hadn't happened to NSIS where he's been disappeared for a quite a while now, but there is no evidence in the system he tried to do that.

The law that dictates exactly which businesses can and can't open.

Seems to me there is no restriction on shops and other commercial outlets opening. The restriction is solely on how they operate and even that's 'flexible'.

My money is on some pub gardens opening in the next 4-6 weeks regardless of government restrictions. It's just a take out being drunk in a garden.

Yes most businesses don’t necessarily fall into a category which has been forced to close, some are still operating and some have chosen to close, others as you say have been flexible... it would seem you do understand!

I assume places like bars and catering premises, can be controlled by licensing to a certain extent, so if you don't follow the guidelines, we revoke any licence to run that facility. Just guessing how it might work.

So what you are saying is the majority of the UK lockdown is voluntary and not because the government felt it necessary.

One question I got, I've seen it said that the virus can live on glass for up to 72 hours, but the only way it will infect you is if it comes in contact with your mouth. Ie hand to face. So would this affect a pub as an example, that a server touches the edge of the glass as they pick it up, to then pour a pint. If they are infected with the virus, would that contact with the glass then infect you?

A lot of businesses have chosen to close for a number of reasons. Some couldn’t operate to a high enough capacity with social distancing, others have seen demand drop off a cliff so it isn’t financially viable to remain open or fully open etc...
