its not a vote winner if all you do is agree with the Government - a week ago Krankie wanted the lockdown to be relaxed and for people to meet in bubbles - as soon as Boris eases lockdown, she does a 180 and forgets all she said a week ago - same as Starmer, all he wanted was the Govt to tell everyone how the lockdown would be relaxed, now he plays thick **** and doesnt understand anything

It’s a grey area caused in part by very hastily drafted laws that might not say what they’re meant to. Some areas tried to enforce the law as written, whereas I think ours tried to enforce what they thought it meant. On big legal issues there’s a difference, but in this specific issue I agree our local plod went the right way.

Many laws come down to how they're interpreted, ultimately by the Courts. Family law is a prime example, where the law was written to give both partners equal standing, which often translates to every other weekend and a big bill for the dad.

One claim to fame is that I got some of the guidance changed from the former CSA, when it talked of parent with responsibility, and saying 'she will..."

    ...but I digress. :emoticon-0111-blush

I guess you saw it too, but I follow quite a bit of legal Twitter and fortunately even the most ardent forces chose not to enforce it, but it was illegal to be at work in the second draft of the current emergency legislation as you were only allowed to leave the house to perform specific prescribed activities, which included travel to and from work, but not actually being at work.

I'm sure bampot or barmpot is a Manchester term of endearment. Used quite frequently by Vera Duckworth to describe Jack on Corrie, as was before it went all pc.

3 mates plus yourself around a circular table (6 ft diameter), equally spaced around the circumferance would not do it. Neither would a 6 ft x 6ft square table.

Monstrous fine DMD, if it's at your place.

Basically behave yourselves and you'll get the treat. Take the piss and it's back to square one. I for one think that's reasonable and that Boris is doing a good job in difficult times.

A 6 foot x 1/16th inch table wouldn't do it either. But you know that.

I was trying to work out segments of a circle circumference and safe area, and somehow my mind switched to volume of a sphere

Or to put it another way...

Why is England doing it's own thing though? All one island and government.

Bit of both really, although I agree locally the Police have taken it reasonably I think.
I’ll say now I haven’t actually seen the speech, I’ve only scanned stuff.
But first time round it wasn’t just down to interpretation, it was that the actual law that came after the lockdown announcement contradicted the speech, in that the PM said you could only go out for some specific reasons, but the law said you could go out for any reasonable excuse.

I’ve not seen whether they’re repealing that law or not? If they do that will be interesting, if not then presumably they’re just trying to (re)define what ‘reasonable excuse’ means?

I was drawing up a contract and was asked for an explanation for, 'what would a reasonable expense be?" I said if there was an expense, there'd be a reason for it. I'm planning to try a similar justification if I get stopped. <ok>

Actually I think local plod enforced the law as it was written, it was other areas that tried to enforce what tumbled out of the PM’s mouth.

    David Allen Green?
    If not I’d follow him
Actually I don’t recall him making the point you did, although arguably you’d only be leaving the house to travel, once you’d left the other section said what you could once you were actually at work...but as said, you don’t know until tested in court
