One of my closest mates (RIP Alex) I played football with for 35 + years used to call me bampot all the time, and when I named my first born after him, he never called me anything else. A reet Glasgie heedbanger !
    Miss you Al.

Yeah, you can find all variants in slang dictionaries. It seems like bampot is common to Jockland.

We all know that hasn't being the case for some already working during the lockdown and certainly won't be for many returning to work also.

So can we return to work tomorrow or not?

    Clear as ****ing mud.

If you can't work from home you are encouraged to return to work, but shops can't open until June??????

    Kinda depends what you do.
Onus on employers to operate under social distancing for their staff.
    If it's a factory - possible, if it's a hairdressers- not possible.
If they cant operate safely then they'll need to use the furlough scheme, benefits, grants and loans.

For me, no change, although I can operate under certain circumstances.

Parts of it were a bit vague, so it needs full parliamentary scrutiny and debate and it will probably be tweaked as a result.

Seemed reasonable to me, but needs the public to understand that the ball will be taken away if they dont play nicely.

Manufacturing and the like are encouraged to go to work from now , general shops are not they are still as you were ... agree on the clear as mud to a point though , so we are allowed to go out as much as we like to exercise etc but whats to stop a few households going to exercise at the same area that happens to be an open garden and keeping 2m apart from each other ?

Funny how a 1st July date pencilled in for hospitality eg the day furloughing finishes as it stands

I thought it was pretty much as expected, social distancing remains in place (so we obviously still can’t going to see family and friends), relaxing of the rules on exercise, going to parks etc (but bigger penalties for those not following the social distancing rules) and at least some targets for dates for shops and restaurants to potentially open.

The PM can't address every single person's personal circumstances in a 10 minute statement, a little patience is required for more clarity, we all need to walk before we can run again. Even before Boris started talking I knew there would be a thousand questions when he'd finished. Lockdown in varying degrees is going to be here for a long time yet.

I don't know what more he could do without this first stage of letting some people work. If XXXX number of people return to work and the 'R' stays under 1 and decreasing then its 'lets progress to stage 2'... but the telling point for me is him saying 'if you **** it up' its back to square 1... remember, this is a cross party, cross borders consensus guided by the people who are giving information. Its not something he's made up in the back of a cig packet... For me, he did a good job tonight..

I will add that overall yes it is what I expected , I expect more detail tomorrow as he said though ... the points raised above are just "what if's" based on tonights speech alone

Over all yes a decent job if followed up with details I know going from my own circumstances my place of work will have to make small changes to desk layout etc to cover this covid certification that was mentioned based on 2m rule etc ... but we are an IT support company so all at home anyway , but I do know our bosses want to get us in the office as soon as possible so we can sell more again (I really dont know how he expects that tbh as I know they will not have done anything to the place and it will be an absolute disgusting tip as it has been since the day I started and a hygiene nightmare ... speaking of which does anyone know who I would report this to , sorry off topic but just came to thought whilst typing)

Nothing too much wrong with the "road map" described - certainly there must be more detail to come. Interesting that he quoted the widely discredited figure of 500,000 potential deaths avoided.

Bit more detail from the 50 page document :

    Where are we at?

    Chris Mason

    Political Correspondent

There is now a gap between hearing from the prime minister tonight, and getting hold of the 50-ish page document regarding England's lockdown tomorrow.

So, here's what we've gleaned from a government official.

    • Most secondary school pupils in England won't be back in a classroom until September. It is hoped those with exams next year might get to head back before the summer holidays, but there are no specifics on the timing of that
    • Nurseries and primary schools won't re-open until the beginning of next month at the earliest. As and when they do, those in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 will head back first
    • From Wednesday, in England, there will be no limit on the exercise you go outside to do. You can sit in the park and read. You can sunbathe...
    • You can meet one person from outside your own household if you stay two metres apart
    • So, you can sit next to a single friend in the park, but you must socially distance
    • And, you can drive to parks and beaches in England but you must socially distance when you get there
For those who are shielding, there is no change in the advice.

Why are Wales and Scotland doing their own thing though? All one island and government.

Pretty much what I asked further above ... I think its a basic "dont take the piss" message but we all know too many will in fact take the piss

Sneaky way of bringing back herd immunity ?? we all know that was the first way they wanted to do it

From what’s been said so far nothing at all, and to be fair it would be no different to you all being in a shop 2m apart
In fact as you’d be outside it would be safer
As I said earlier though let’s wait and see what the real documents say. The law that followed the first lockdown announcement didn’t fit quite with what the PM said...I suspect this may be the same situation

I watched his speech and all I gleaned from it was that he doesn't know. If he doesn't know, then that's because his advisors don't know either. He's just a politician with strange hair.

People want to lay the blame on someone or something, but at the end of the day, blame means nothing, it won't get us anywhere.

Just stay clean and "BE ALERT" <laugh>

It's more the interpretation of the law, rather than any law in itself. There's been some extreme examples on various media in some areas, but on the whole, I think our local plod have been remarkably level headed and pragmatic as far as I can tell.
