The tracking app is being condemned as not asking broad enough questions, reference the virus. It is only asking about a new cough and fever symptoms, which often don’t manifest until later into the infection, meaning that those who don’t initially suffer from those two issues, but some of the other symptoms, could still be walking around with covid-19, but not recording it. Other issues are that some of the older smartphones aren’t compatible. There is another app, already in existence, created by a top scientist Tim Spector, being used by 3 million people, that encompasses more of the symptoms associated with covid-19, but the government apparently rejected this in favour of one supported by Matt Hancock. My personal opinion, is that the government is still pursuing a herd immunity strategy, by being so half arsed in their response. The lack of PPE. The lateness of the lockdown. The flimsy interpretation of self isolation, in the beginning. Allowing 18million people to fly into the country without them being isolated. Putting elderly covid-19 sufferers into care homes. I am sure there are more. But, to end on a positive, tests in the USA have shown that a drug used to treat schizophrenia can stop the coronavirus infecting mice. It doesn’t always translate that it will do the same in humans, but it may offer a glimmer of hope for a vaccine.
Because we can't all stay locked up indoors indefinitely. If the only way to beat the virus is to completely destroy our economy, whilst suffering a collective mental breakdown behind closed doors, maybe we have to find a way of living with Covid 19, (whilst also accepting that some people will die of it)? Just a thought btw.
South Korea has had a second wave, after opening back up. 34 new cases today, linked to one 20-year old that visited multiple nightclubs. This is really, really bad news. Cant see bars being open for ages.
As much as I love a drink and a laugh, late night pubs and clubs etc not being open sounds like heaven to me. Nothing more cringe than people not being able to handle there 4 pints of carlsberg and giving it the large on a night out
I wish I knew mate, but I don’t. We just have to hope and trust that it’s all going to be okay in the end. Our government might be a bunch of clowns, but I guess we have to trust them as well. They don’t actually get up in the morning and think, “how can we be completely useless”, so maybe they’ll get it right by accident. In the meantime, another weekend goes past without Saints conceding a soft goal, so it’s not all bad.
Downing late goal in that 2-2 draw with Boro just dropped in my head then. Can still hear myself saying " Close that twat down, ah to late " even to this day.
It's entirely possible that we will just have to surrender and allow the disease to run through the population. What an incredible failure, for both government and the public at large, that will represent. It truly did not have to be that way. There's also little evidence that laxer restrictions will keep the economy afloat. Most people do not just go back to normalcy while a disease runs rampant.
