Are you seriously trying to tell me that the likes of Green, MacDonald, White Milburn et al would not have been good enough? How many of them did you see? Great players in any generation would have been able to adapt to another generation’s style of play. That’s what amongst other things makes them great players. For Tony Green think Peter Beardsley but better. I’ve seen both and PB was the closest in style and ability to TG that I can think of to TG but he still wasn’t as good as TG. He would be in modern terms a box to box player. He would easily get in any PL team today. Gascoigne would get into any PL team of today, no doubt about it. The only way your point holds good would be if we didn’t allow age adjustment.
True. But also missed Speed, Lee etc. There are just too many that are far better than Bob to actually list. Bob was good but nowhere near the top echelon of players we’ve had just in my lifetime.
yes I am ! look at what's required now .. all sports increase in demand... the heroes of back then wouldn't even be good enough full stop. All sports the bar rises over time... what cut it then would not cut it now
Kicking a football or heading a football or saving a football or running around on a football pitch. Which bit has changed? If you could kick and run then you can still kick and run now. It’s what modern sports analysts would have you believe but it’s simply not true. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion..even if yours is wrong.
So are you suggesting Hayden, Bentaleb, Atsu and Ritchie (all PL players today) are better than Green, or Gascoigne? Sadly, that’s where your arguement falls down when you look at actual players.
