I think you need to get in touch with Gove and tell him that he has got his figures wrong. If he has got it wrong then he can shut down his academy to train them up. One of you appears to be wrong however you look at it. These however are customers people to deal with the mountain of transactions on behalf of HMRC.
They were not his figures, they were from the RHA. Freight forwarders already handle the growing majority of UK export /import trade which is with countries outside of the EU. I suspect these private companies will recruit more staff but nowhere near the RHA's exaggerated figure. The government will fast track much of the paperwork on trusted trader schemes to limit delays. Of course the French may try to slow things down on purpose, their answer to any grievance is block and delay, knowing all French governments invariably cave in to their demands.
You really should try and keep up. Mr Gove, who gave evidence to the Commons Brexit committee last week, did not challenge the freight industry’s estimate that 50,000 customs agents — also known as intermediaries — will be needed. One ally said the figure was “not far off” the government’s estimate. If each new staff member earned £30,000 a year, that would amount to an extra cost to traders of £1.5bn. The £34 million that the government is spending to set this all up is wasted according to you. You need to get that email off to him quickly before he starts to spend it.
#OpPIMA and sadly we’re fighting a losing battle in the parks today. Literally hundreds of people sitting having pizza, beers, wines. As always a big thank you to those that are observing the guidelines. please log in to view this image
What do you offer to these boards ?? Banned from one thread for abuse... posst a couple of things over the entire message boards over a whole month... and then back here with your wind ups.... ...and call yourself a Watford supporter?????
The transactions will be done by private companies known as freight forwarders as they presently do for non EU movements. On a lorry or container load the actual cost is minimal. The only cost to the government is extra customs staff to do the occasional checks, searches, x-rays, and company visits to check back paperwork. Well worth the extra cost for total freedom from any further interference from Brussels.
"Where will you find these 55,000 employees to carry out the paperwork Mr. Gove"? "We will train them up at our new academy." "Will you have all these people in place by December?" No answer! You have told us that these people are not required, or that the numbers are an exaggeration by the RHA. Clearly Gove doesn't agree with you. Which of the two of you is right?
Not one insult in what I said ..... I can assure you i am not a sham supporter who comes on these boards to blow my own trumpet, puff up my ego and attempt to wind others up......
It makes me sick to see that the people in care homes still cannot get the PPE that is required. The government says not for the first time that it is working around the clock, but admits that it is still trialing the scheme to get the stuff out to them. I have an advert on my computer where I can buy 50 masks for €13 inc. delivery. There is something very wrong when a trial is still taking place to see if they can deliver essential equipment. The incompetence of this government is beyond belief.
I'm sure the government is planning to assist the freight forwarder companies by setting up courses to train additional staff. This is sensible planning. The additional staff numbers required will end up nowhere near this figure. I'm quite willing to give Mr Gove the benefit of my experience should he call me, without charge for a fellow Tory. The Pas de Calais region already has very high unemployment which the Covid-19 virus will make much worse. Although the French fishing industry in the area is likely to take a serious hit, the employment opportunities for additional border and shipping staff due to Brexit will be most welcomed.
Whiffle, whaffle, total nonsense. You really should do your homework before coming on here. When we can see that you are not using the dog ate my homework excuse, come back and explain why Gove says one thing and you another. Meanwhile you are likely to get pushed into the remove class unless you use your time on getting some facts to support your flimsy opinions. You have had a month to gather some facts, but it looks as if you have been wasting your time. Do you need longer?
Don't blame me for your lack of understanding the situation. You really should not take Guardian articles as gospel.
Get real SH. Non of this came from the Guardian, but from evidence that Gove gave in person to a select committee. I watched it, which you clearly didn't, because if you had you wouldn't be coming out with this nonsense. You are still stuck in some strange time warp where you wish to believe what was promised by Gove and his mates, but they have moved on, and are now trying to square the circle. Next time you come back please use some factual information, and not some whimsy that you have dreamed up.
Your experience? What, you once received an imported load at a nursery? This makes you an expert in international freight forwarding does it?
Gove has no idea how many new jobs will be created, he just used a lazy figure dreamt up by a biased lobby for the transport business. The process of dealing with import/export stock was relatively simple 20 years ago using computers, faxes and post. I should imagine this process has been dramatically simplified with most details stored electronically. I used to employ an excellent freight forward company based in Crawley. I'm sure any job losses at Gatwick will give companies like this an ample supply of suitable labour. When the transition period ends in December and we leave without a deal does not mean a deal is not possible in the future. It may take a time of reflection for the EU to fully understand the UK will once again be a sovereign nation. With extra unemployment piled onto already high numbers in many countries in Europe there will be huge pressure on the EU's negotiators to treat the UK fairly, as they have done with other countries seeking mutual advantages trading terms.
German intelligence has discovered the Chinese President asked the WHO chief to delay a global warning about Covid-19 on January 21. The WHO did not declare a Covid-19 pandemic until March 11. Trump has been proved correct on his fierce criticism of the WHO led by Tedros Adhanom who has continuously defended the dodgy Chinese actions since the outbreak started in Wuhan. It is no coincidence the Chinese were instrumental in this guy getting the top job. China has denied holding up exports of PPE during this delayed period of notification, but I have personal knowledge to the contrary. How did China think they could get away with it without damaging long term consequences?
This is utter nonsense. The WHO declared COVID 19 a Public Health Emergency of Global concern on 30th Jan. we didn’t record our first case until the 31st Jan. The numbers simply didn’t make it a worldwide pandemic at that point. However, to suggest that the classification somehow meant that they weren’t warning of the potential seriousness and urging nations to act, is simply lying. Trump is seeking to blame shift. Him and his right wing media acolytes were labelling the severity of the virus a Democrat hoax as late as the end of Feb.
