I like it when people threaten me because it is guaranteed to make me do the absolute blooming opposite.

Not sure this argument will sway any of the bottom 6.

Financially it may be worse short-term, but at least they'd be guaranteed PL football next season. If relegated and not promoted again anytime soon, long term they'd be worse off.

Also although cancelling may mean 'worse' off financially, that is in comparison to their budget if the season continued. It is not in comparison to the other teams around them who would also lose out just the same.

The PL don't need the bottom 6 to vote for the plan if the other 14 do.

The bigger picture? Come on. They won't restart it unless they can convince people it is safe enough. The world will restart eventually. Football is not going to have any significant impact on anything. For a football forum, I am surprised people don't want to see some football.

Can I also say you have discounted my points without addressing why they are wrong, so maybe your mind is also made up.

It's not just confined to the 300 or so at every game. Fans will turn out to see their teams turn up, even if they can't get into the ground. They will need policing, and so it goes on. The risks to everyone involved, including the public, are too great. I have been a football fan all my life, but it's one of many sacrifices that have to be made. And no, it won't be safe until we have a vaccine. Sorry if that offends you, but that is the reality of the situation.

I am not at all offended, I just disagree. The world will begin to work out what it can relax on and what it can't. Football is fairly easy to fix. Fans can be banned from congregating the same as a picnic is banned. Even easier as we know where and when they will be. I have actually an open mind on this. I recognise that we needed to lockdown, but I am interested in places like Sweden which have done it differently. Does that mean I am close-minded? Surely, logically, not. Perhaps my open mind is naivety or maybe you think I hate old people. Hard to tell on the Internet, huh? However, working out how to play football again safely is a drop in the ocean. If it is done safely, how can you argue? Personally, I cannot wait to go for a long walk again, 2 metres from my mates, carrying golf club. Need to lose more balls in bushes.

Sweden have had, compared to their neighbouring Scandinavian countries, an enormously high death rate, so I wouldn’t be too quick to jump in that direction. I’m not sure where you’re getting these assumptions about what I think from either.

Football will return way before a vaccine has been produced.

Which will be, in the long term, bad for football, because many of us won’t bother with it so much. We have to accept that the world has changed, and everything we used to do has to be re-evaluated.

Until we have a vaccine, football as it used to be is unthinkable, and even football behind closed doors Isn’t really worth all the risks.

Sorry if I have misrepresented you. Could you explain how and where? Just a small point to clarify: I never made a judgement about Sweden but said I was interested in it.

“Maybe you think I hate old people” was just a bit off the wall and a complete non-sequitur from what we were discussing. I appreciate the distinction about the Sweden thing, but I thought it worth pointing out the problems they’re having, possibly as a result of the less-rigid route they have gone down, although it’s true their death rate per capita is nowhere near as bad as ours. My guess is the population density is key to everything here, which is why London is by far the worst-affected region in the UK.

Sorry, I was not saying you said that. It was just a hyperbolous hypothetical.
