So what you all up to then? Everyone seems to be in the spirit of the day and there's people set up in their front gardens with BBQ's all around our estate.

I'm just doing to sit out front and have some beers.

People round by me got too much of a stick up there arses to do any celebrating. Plus it’s London so people generally don’t like anything which might be seen as national pride!

Total opposite for people I know outside of London who seem to have all sorts of social distancing street parties going on! Makes me think it might not be so bad living outside of London...

I’ll just be chilling on the balcony in the sun with a few beers and a bottle of red wine I think. Thought about going for a walk but meh.

I'm not a fan of London overall and I can imagine that there's not much going on in the streets that's.
It's busy as hell around here.

Bit of a street 'party' going on here.

Bunting out, picnics/barbecues on the front lawns, ww2 tunes playing.

    It's ok.

I'm dressed up but look pretty stylish as it goes, chinos, boots, granddad shirt with a fairisle tanktop and newsboy cap.

    Whether that's WW2, I don't know? I look fly though.

As long as I've got a beer.

I love London, born and raised Londoner here. But as I hit a point in life where i think about having a family we aren’t so sure we want to do it in London. Not sure it has the community and safety I’d want for my kids when I have them. And not enough outdoor activity.

I’d love to **** off to Australia tbh but not sure if the in-laws would ever forgive me! <laugh>
So I may have to look for somewhere else in the UK!

Ahh Churchill, praised a lot... but every military decision he was directly involved with tended to end in defeat.

The houses up the lane are having a VE Day front garden party. Average age about 65.

He was a failure at everything he touched, but he was one of the first politicians anywhere in the world to recognise Hitler for what he was, when everyone else was in denial.

He made a good figurehead because a) he looked like a bulldog, b) he gave a good rousing speech, and c) people believed him when he said "we will nevah, nevah, surrendah to corporal Hitler and his Huns!"

His generals - most of whom were fairly useless themselves - knew he had to be kept well away from any military decision making though.

The decision to sink/take the french fleet helped push the Americans into supporting us and stopped the Germans getting control of the only navy that could have rivalled our own. Ruthless decision but it worked.
